Its usefulness depends on the list’s patch, role, rank bracket, region and method, as well as the matchup, team composition and your familiarity with the champion.
What a champion tier means
Community tier lists summarize how strong or dependable a champion appears within a particular frame. That frame may be based on ranked results, pick and ban rates, trends, or a creator’s judgment. Because publishers define and assess tiers differently, an S on one site does not necessarily mean the same thing as an S on another.
Lists that use ranked signals
WR-Meta says its Patch 7.3 rankings are specific to role and rank bracket. It describes win rate as its primary factor, with pick rate, ban rate and performance trend as additional context. The site also cautions that a tier reflects overall reliability, not an individual player’s skill. Its reviewed page has no displayed update date, so the timing of that snapshot cannot be verified from the page.
Qualitative creator lists
WildRiftFire presents a Patch 7.3a list by role with S+, S, A, B and C labels and qualitative explanations. It identifies iTzSTU4RT as the list maintainer, but the reviewed page does not describe a statistical calculation. Read those labels as that list’s assessments, not as a standardized scale shared across publishers.

How community tiers differ from Riot’s ratings and ranked tiers
Three systems can sound similar while measuring different things:
- Community champion tiers rank champions according to an outside publisher’s stated scope and method.
- Riot’s in-game S/A performance ratings compare a player with others using the same champion, taking role responsibilities and team contributions into account, according to Riot’s Patch 7.3 notes.
- Ranked and Legendary Ranked tiers describe player progression, not a champion’s placement on an outside tier list.
Riot’s September 14, 2026 explanation of ranked progression says the updated evaluation is intended to recognize contributions such as decision-making, objective control, teamwork, vision and map play—not only kills. These official systems do not make a community list’s champion labels universal.

Why the same champion can have different tiers
A tier compresses several conditions into one label. A champion can rate highly in one role and less highly in another because the lane, opponents, available builds, allied needs and pick/ban pressure differ. A role-specific placement therefore should not be compared directly with a placement in another role.
Matchup and composition also change what a recommendation means. A highly rated pick may not address the gaps in your team or may be difficult to use into the opposing lineup. A lower-rated champion you know well may be a more practical choice than an unfamiliar one, though a tier list cannot establish which pick will win a particular game.

Use a list as a draft signal, then ask:
- Is it for the role you intend to play and a rank bracket close to yours?
- Does its patch and date reflect the current balance state, including follow-up adjustments?
- Does the pick fit what your team needs and function into the opponents you expect?
- Have you played the champion enough to use its kit confidently?
- Could the champion be banned, and do you have a comfortable alternative?
Check the patch, date, region and rank scope
Tier placements can move after balance changes. Riot’s Patch 7.3 notes, dated September 21, 2026, cover ranked evaluation, Champion Score, role incentives, bans, champion balance and items. They say Platinum-through-Diamond Ranked matches move from three bans per team to five, giving teams more choice over picks and compositions. Riot’s Patch 7.3a notes, dated September 29, 2026, then include follow-up adjustments: Hwei’s damage was reduced as its performance continued to rise while players mastered its kit, and Samira, Rammus and Malphite were also changed. A list for 7.3 may not reflect those later adjustments.
Region and rank can matter just as much as patch. A Wild Rift Hub snapshot based on official China-server statistics for Master+ and dated October 3, 2026, ranked Hwei mid as OP while reporting a 74.8% ban rate and a 55.3% win rate. The site says its tiers are relative within each role rather than simply ordered by win rate, and warns that China’s patch timing may differ from the global version. Those figures describe that specific regional, rank-specific snapshot; they are not global rates or a general recommendation for every player.

How to compare tier lists usefully
Before treating two placements as contradictory, check whether they describe the same conditions. Compare champions within the same role and rank bracket where possible, and identify whether each list is based on measured ranked outcomes, a qualitative assessment, or a combination.

| Rank bracket | Performance in one skill range does not establish the same placement in another. |
| Role | Champion value and list placement are role-specific; do not assume a ranking transfers across lanes or positions. |
| Method and data | Win rate, pick rate, ban rate, trends and qualitative judgment answer different questions and can yield different rankings. |
| Context | Check whether the list accounts for matchups, composition, player comfort or pick/ban pressure—or whether its tiers are broader summaries. |
Riot’s stated guidance is to choose for the team’s chance to win rather than to protect a number. A tier can help narrow choices, but it cannot replace the draft context or your own ability to play the champion.
