To play PEAK co-op on a Nintendo Switch 2, you should plan on needing a Nintendo Account, internet access, an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, and one compatible controller for each online player. Nintendo requires those items for Switch 2 online features, including GameChat. However, Nintendo and Team PEAK have not yet published a complete Switch 2 specification for PEAK. The console edition’s release status, player limits, local multiplayer support, cross-play, controller compatibility and distribution format therefore remain items to verify in the eShop or official developer documentation.
The published Steam version of PEAK is a co-op climbing game with online multiplayer for up to four players, friends-only sessions, proximity chat and offline single-player. Those are confirmed Steam features, not proof that the Switch 2 version will have identical functionality.

What you need right now
For an online PEAK session on Switch 2, prepare the following:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- A Nintendo Switch 2 console connected to the internet.
- A Nintendo Account for each player using Nintendo’s online services.
- An active Nintendo Switch Online membership for the account or accounts participating in online features. As of October 18, 2026, the temporary GameChat exception has ended.
- A compatible controller for every person playing. The exact Joy-Con 2, Pro Controller or third-party combinations accepted by PEAK have not been published.
- A way to communicate. Switch 2 GameChat provides voice chat without a camera; video chat requires a compatible USB camera sold separately.
If PEAK supports same-console local co-op, additional controllers will be necessary, but neither the number of local players nor the local mode itself has been confirmed. Do not buy a specific quantity of Joy-Con 2 controllers on the assumption that PEAK supports couch co-op until the game’s eShop page or developer documentation says so.

- These updated Joy-Con 2 controllers have a color scheme inspired by Deep Cut from the Splatoon franchise. They have HD rumble, easy-to-use motion and mouse controls, and a C Button for easy GameChat* access (available in compatible games).
What is confirmed about PEAK—and what is not
Features documented for the Steam version
PEAK’s official website currently points players to the Steam release. The Steam listing describes online co-op for up to four players, friends-only multiplayer, proximity chat and an offline single-player mode. These details establish what the published PC version offers.
They do not establish feature parity on Switch 2. In particular, there is no published Switch 2 specification confirming that the console edition will have four-player online co-op, proximity chat, local multiplayer, split-screen, multi-system wireless play, cross-play with PC or integration with Nintendo’s GameChat system.
Questions still awaiting an official Switch 2 listing
- Whether a PEAK Nintendo Switch 2 edition is available in the eShop, and its exact release date.
- Whether online play supports four players on the console edition.
- Whether local multiplayer exists, and whether it uses split-screen, multiple consoles or online connections.
- Which Joy-Con 2, Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller or other compatible controllers are accepted.
- Whether the game is sold as a download, game-key card or physical cartridge.
- Whether Switch 2 players can join Steam players through cross-play.
Until those points are documented, treat online four-player play and all other Steam features as unconfirmed for Switch 2 rather than guaranteed.

Nintendo Switch Online: when you need it
Nintendo states that internet access, a Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership are required for Switch 2 online features, including GameChat. That requirement applies to the online service layer; it does not by itself confirm that PEAK has been released for Switch 2 or explain how PEAK’s own multiplayer menu will work.
Nintendo previously recorded a temporary exception in its 2025 feature information: GameChat could be used without Nintendo Switch Online through March 31, 2026. The current date is October 18, 2026, so that exception is no longer in effect. Expect an active membership to be required when you use GameChat or another supported online mode now.
Nintendo also says that games, systems, memberships and some accessories are sold separately. A household membership may cover multiple Nintendo Accounts under Nintendo’s membership rules, but the account joining an online game still needs to be covered by an eligible membership. Check the membership status on the account that will launch the online session before troubleshooting the game.

- The updated Joy-Con 2 controllers have motion controls and HD rumble 2, along with the new C Button for easy GameChat* access and all-new mouse controls in compatible games.
- This set includes both a left and right Joy-Con 2 controller (along with a pair of Joy-Con 2 straps)—perfect for local multiplayer with a friend in compatible games.
- Includes two Joy-Con 2 straps.
- Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
How to prepare an online PEAK session
- Confirm the game edition. Check the Nintendo eShop for an official PEAK Switch 2 listing. Verify the release date, supported players, online requirements and controller notes shown on that page.
- Connect the console. Test the Switch 2’s internet connection in system settings. A stable connection is especially important for a climbing game that uses online movement and proximity communication.
- Sign in to a Nintendo Account. Each participating player should use the Nintendo Account required by the game’s online flow.
- Activate Nintendo Switch Online. Make sure the account joining the session has an active membership. Do this before diagnosing voice or matchmaking problems.
- Update the system and game. Install any available Switch 2 system update and PEAK patch. A new console release may require a specific game version before online play appears.
- Open PEAK’s multiplayer menu. Use the game’s own instructions to create or join a friends-only session if that option is present. The Steam listing documents friends-only online play, but the Switch 2 menu labels have not been published.
- Invite the intended players. Do not assume that a four-player Steam group can automatically join a Switch 2 session. Confirm the console player limit and cross-play policy in the Switch 2 listing first.
- Start GameChat separately if needed. Press the C Button on the right Joy-Con 2, invite approved friends and select the voice-chat group. GameChat is a Switch 2 communication feature; it is not evidence that PEAK itself supports every Steam chat feature.
Controllers: how many do you need?
Online play
For online play, each person needs access to a compatible controller for their own Switch 2 system. If four-player online co-op is confirmed for the console edition, that means four players can each use one supported controller on their respective systems; it does not mean one console needs four controllers.
The reviewed Nintendo guidance does not identify PEAK’s accepted controller combinations. Do not assume that one detached Joy-Con 2, a paired Joy-Con 2 set, a Pro Controller or a third-party pad will all work. Verify the game’s controller support in the eShop listing or developer instructions.
Same-console play
If PEAK later documents local co-op, extra Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 controllers or another compatible controller may be needed. Nintendo explicitly warns that additional accessories may be required for multiplayer and that accessories are sold separately. The number of local players and the required controller count are not currently stated for PEAK on Switch 2, so a precise shopping list would be speculation.

- Two Joy Con can be used independently in each hand, or together as 1 game controller when attached to the Joy Con grip
- They can also attach to the main console for use in handheld mode, or be shared with friends to enjoy two player action in supported games
- Each Joy Con has a full set of buttons and can act as a standalone controller, and each includes an accelerometer and gyro sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible
Practical purchase checklist
- Buy additional Joy-Con 2 controllers only after the PEAK listing confirms local multiplayer and its player count.
- Check whether each local participant needs a complete controller or whether a single Joy-Con 2 can be used horizontally.
- Verify that any third-party controller is supported by both Switch 2 and PEAK; console compatibility alone does not guarantee in-game support.
- Keep one tested controller available for navigating GameChat and system menus if another controller disconnects.
Using Switch 2 GameChat for PEAK voice communication
GameChat supports voice chat for groups of up to 12 people on Switch 2. Voice-only use does not require a camera. Nintendo’s parents guidance says up to four people can share their game screen or participate in video chat simultaneously; video features require a compatible USB camera sold separately.
GameChat setup
- Connect the Switch 2 to the internet and sign in to a Nintendo Account with Nintendo Switch Online.
- Launch PEAK or prepare to join the same online session as your friends.
- Press the C Button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller to open GameChat.
- Invite the approved friends who should be in the voice group. Use Nintendo’s communication and parental controls to manage who can participate.
- Choose voice chat. Leave the camera disconnected if you only need audio; a USB camera is needed only for video features.
- Return to the game and keep GameChat open as the voice layer while you play. If PEAK later publishes native GameChat integration, follow the game’s instructions for enabling it.
GameChat’s 12-person voice limit is a Nintendo platform limit, not a confirmed PEAK lobby size. PEAK may support fewer players in a game session even if more friends can remain in the voice group.

Using the Nintendo Switch App as an alternative
Nintendo also documents a voice-chat path through the Nintendo Switch App on a smart device. This option is available to Nintendo Switch Online members age 13 and older. It requires an active membership, the app installed on the smart device, and the same Nintendo Account used for the supported multiplayer activity.
Best Value
- The Joy-Con 2 (L) controller includes the Capture Button.
- Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
- Install the Nintendo Switch App on a compatible smart device and sign in with the Nintendo Account linked to the Switch 2.
- Start the supported multiplayer mode on the console.
- Open the app’s voice-chat area and join the lobby associated with the game session.
- Use the phone or tablet for voice audio while playing on the Switch 2.
This app route should be treated as an alternative only if PEAK is listed as compatible with Nintendo’s app-based voice-chat system. The existence of the app does not prove that PEAK supports it.
Cross-play, local multiplayer and GameChat integration: avoid assumptions
Three assumptions are particularly risky. First, Steam’s four-player online co-op does not prove that the Switch 2 version has the same player cap. Second, a console release does not automatically mean split-screen or multi-system local multiplayer. Third, GameChat availability on Switch 2 does not guarantee that PEAK will expose proximity chat, game audio mixing or other PC-style communication features through it.
Look for explicit wording such as “online play,” “local wireless,” “same-system multiplayer,” “cross-platform play,” a player-count range and a controller requirement. If a listing says only that the game is playable on Switch 2, that is not enough to answer the co-op question.

Troubleshooting an online session
PEAK has no online option
- Confirm that you installed the Switch 2 edition rather than a compatibility version intended for another system.
- Check the eShop listing for the online-player count and membership requirement.
- Install game and system updates, then restart the console.
- Verify that the Nintendo Account launching the game has Nintendo Switch Online.
Friends cannot join
- Confirm that every player is using the same supported edition and an up-to-date version.
- Check whether the console edition is friends-only and whether invitations must be sent through the game’s menu.
- Do not assume cross-play; look for an explicit cross-platform statement from the developer.
- Test each player’s internet connection and membership status independently.
GameChat voice does not work
- Press the C Button on the right Joy-Con 2 and confirm that the correct friends are in the GameChat group.
- Check the console’s microphone, output and parental-control settings.
- Confirm the Nintendo Switch Online membership is active after March 31, 2026.
- For voice-only chat, remove the camera from the troubleshooting path; Nintendo requires a USB camera for video, not for audio.
What to verify before buying PEAK for Switch 2
- Open the official Nintendo eShop page and confirm that a Switch 2 edition is actually available.
- Record the listed release date, supported online and local player counts, and whether Nintendo Switch Online is required.
- Check for explicit cross-play wording and identify which platforms can join one another.
- Read the controller section for Joy-Con 2, Pro Controller and other compatibility details.
- Confirm whether the purchase is a download, game-key card or physical cartridge.
- Read the developer’s multiplayer and voice-chat notes for any limits that differ from the Steam version.
Until those details are published, the safe plan is to budget for Nintendo Switch Online, internet access, a Nintendo Account and one compatible controller per online player, while treating local co-op, cross-play, four-player parity and PEAK-specific GameChat behavior as unconfirmed.
