Public projects remain experimental, and a computer that meets one project’s requirements—or can boot a game—cannot be assumed to run another title reliably. Before buying or upgrading hardware, check the chosen project’s current operating-system and graphics requirements, then look up the exact game’s status in the matching compatibility tracker.
Why there is no dependable PS5 emulator PC spec list
A minimum specification is useful only when a project has tested and documented what hardware can run its software. The available PS5-emulation project information does not establish that kind of general-purpose requirement. It does not support a particular processor, graphics card, memory capacity, storage target, price, or expected frame rate for PS5 emulation as a whole.

That distinction matters when shopping. A “gaming PC” or “Vulkan-capable PC” describes a broad category, not a validated threshold for a specific emulator and game. No component list can compensate for emulator code that does not yet implement a required CPU behavior, graphics feature, or system function. More powerful hardware may not solve a missing software feature.

For shadPS5, the project describes a Windows, Linux, and macOS target, a Vulkan renderer, and an approach that translates console CPU instructions into host-native code while mapping GPU commands to Vulkan. Those details explain what the software is trying to do; they are not published minimum or recommended PC specifications. The project itself describes its compatibility list as small and says it grows as the developers add high-level emulation stubs and GPU fixes.

What the PC’s hardware and software do
Processor: translate the console’s CPU work
In shadPS5’s described approach, console CPU instructions are translated into code the host PC can execute. The work involved is one reason it is unsafe to infer a suitable processor from a game’s console target or from another emulator’s requirements. The available project information does not specify a required CPU model, core count, thread count, clock speed, or performance tier for PS5 emulation.
A faster processor should not be treated as a guarantee of compatibility. If a game fails because a needed system behavior has not been implemented, processor speed alone does not supply it. Check whether the exact title reaches the state you need, rather than using processor specifications as a substitute for a compatibility result.
Graphics hardware and API: execute translated rendering work
shadPS5 says it uses Vulkan to map graphics work, and the project report on SharpEmu describes ongoing work on SPIR-V shader translation and Vulkan support. This makes graphics support an important thing to verify, but it does not establish that every Vulkan-capable GPU is fast enough or supports every feature a game needs. The available information gives no PS5-emulation GPU model, VRAM minimum, Vulkan version requirement, or measured graphics benchmark.

On macOS, shadPS5 says it uses MoltenVK. That is a project-specific detail, not evidence that every PS5 emulation project supports macOS or uses the same graphics route. Verify the current documentation for the exact build and operating system you plan to use; do not assume that an operating system listed by one project applies to another.
Memory, storage, and drivers: verify rather than guess
The available sources do not establish a general PS5 emulator RAM amount, storage requirement, or driver version. Do not import figures from a PS4 emulator guide or treat a console’s memory capacity as a PC requirement. Consult the selected project’s current release documentation for any stated prerequisites, and keep the game’s compatibility status separate from the question of whether the PC can meet those prerequisites.
Drivers and graphics support are project- and platform-specific. If the project documentation calls for particular graphics support, check the installed PC and driver documentation against it before troubleshooting a game. Do not change operating systems or replace hardware based only on a requirement listed for a different emulator.

Compatibility labels tell you more than a boot video
A game appearing to start is not the same as being playable. Compatibility trackers may distinguish between a title that boots, reaches a menu, renders graphics, or can be played. A boot screen or menu proves only that the software reached that point in the tested configuration; it does not establish stable gameplay, completion, correct audio, or consistent performance.
shadPS5’s project page says its list is small and tracks different states, including booting, reaching the main menu, rendering, and actual playability. Use the entry for the exact game, and pay attention to the reported state rather than treating every listed title as working.
A dated example shows why labels need context. In a September 27, 2026 report, Tom’s Hardware said 12 of 55 titles tested with SharpEmu had reached a “game-ready” state, and six were designated playable at 60 FPS. The report also said those six had not been tested from start to finish and that the playable label could still allow minor graphical or audio issues. These are figures for one emulator and its reported test set—not a general compatibility rate, a benchmark for other projects, or a promise for your PC. They also do not establish that a game will run at that frame rate in a different build or configuration.

How to choose a project and check your PC
- Identify the exact project and build. Do not rely on a search result that merely uses the phrase “PS5 emulator.” Confirm that the software is a PS5 emulator, and note the release or build associated with any claimed result.
- Look up your exact game. Check the project’s own compatibility information. Record whether the game boots, reaches a menu, renders, or is marked playable, along with the date and build behind that entry.
- Check the operating system and graphics path. Match your operating system to the project’s current documentation. For shadPS5, the stated targets are Windows, Linux, and macOS, with Vulkan rendering and MoltenVK on macOS. Do not generalize those details to other projects.
- Compare your PC with explicit requirements only. If the selected project publishes a CPU, GPU, API, memory, or driver requirement, compare your system with that particular statement. If a value is not documented, treat it as unknown—not as an invitation to copy a figure from a different emulator.
- Decide whether to upgrade only after checking software limits. If the game is unimplemented or has a limited compatibility status, a hardware upgrade may not change that. The available sources provide no validated minimum build or independent performance benchmark to use as a purchasing target.
- Recheck before installing or buying. Emulator development and compatibility status can change. Confirm the project’s current release notes and the game’s latest compatibility entry for the build you intend to use.
Keep PS4 emulator requirements separate
One common source of misleading advice is a specification page for shadPS4, which is explicitly a PS4 emulator. Its official quick-start guide lists at least four CPU cores and six threads, a frequency above 2.5 GHz, x86-64-v3 support, a GPU with 2 GB VRAM and Vulkan 1.3 plus named extensions, and 8 GB RAM, along with minimum operating-system versions.
Those numbers apply to shadPS4, not to PS5 emulation. They do not demonstrate that a PC meeting them can run a PS5 emulator, nor do they provide a lower bound for another project. Treat any page that presents those figures as PS5 requirements with caution unless it provides independent, project-specific support.
The same shadPS4 guide discusses game, update, and downloadable-content files and firmware modules for PS4 compatibility. Those are instructions for that PS4 project; they should not be repackaged as universal PS5 setup steps.

Understand which projects are actually emulators
Project names and progress percentages can describe very different work. shadPS5 and SharpEmu are discussed as experimental PS5 emulation projects. AnyPS5, by contrast, is described as native porting through binary transformation and API reimplementation rather than conventional emulation.
Tom’s Hardware reported that AnyPS5’s “100%” figure referred to decoder recognition of tracked shader instructions, not complete support for shader behavior, GPU features, or game rendering. The progress tracker’s 1,166 tracked AMD RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 shader instructions measure decoder coverage only. They do not mean that 100% of PS5 games work, that every game renders correctly, or that a PC can run a PS5 emulator at a particular speed. Always ask what a percentage counts before interpreting it as a compatibility claim.
Games, firmware, and legal scope
Projects differ in what they distribute. PS5PCEM says it does not ship games, console firmware, system libraries, keys, or vendor-copyrighted material, and describes its purpose as interoperability research and education. That statement is specific to PS5PCEM; it does not describe every project’s contents or policies.
The available project information does not settle the law for every country, game, or method of obtaining system files. Owning a console or a game should not be treated as automatically resolving every legal question. Read the chosen project’s documentation and check the rules that apply where you live. The sources available here also do not establish a complete, current set of PS5 game-dumping instructions, so there is no universal file-preparation procedure to provide.
A practical buying decision
If you are considering a PC specifically for PS5 emulation, the defensible approach is to avoid buying against an invented minimum spec. First choose a project, then verify its current platform and graphics requirements and inspect the compatibility entry for the game you care about. A Vulkan-capable gaming PC may be a useful broad category to search for in the context of projects that use Vulkan, but it is not a validated PS5-emulation tier or a promise of performance.
There is no evidence-backed parts list or price target in the available project information. The most useful purchasing question is therefore not “Will this PC run PS5 emulation?” in the abstract, but “Does this project’s current build support my operating system and graphics path, and what does its latest entry say about this exact game?” Until a project publishes and validates broader requirements, that game-and-build check is more reliable than a generic PC specification chart.
