RPCS5’s website lists an eight-core CPU minimum, a GPU starting at the RX 400 or GTX 10 series, and 8 GB of RAM. These are RPCS5’s self-published claims, not independently verified PS5 emulator requirements. They should not be used as a shopping list.
Do not confuse PS4 emulator requirements with PS5 requirements
shadPS4 explicitly identifies itself as a PlayStation 4 emulator. Its quick-start guide describes the project as early in development and warns that many games do not work or have emulation issues. Its currently listed minimums are specific to shadPS4 and PS4 emulation:

Does a PS5 emulator need a BIOS or firmware?
“BIOS” may not be the right term for a console emulator’s system software. The sources here do not establish a verified PS5 emulator firmware requirement or explain a validated method for installing PS5 firmware on a PC. Sony’s PS5 system software support page covers updates for an actual PS5 console, not emulator compatibility or PC installation. Sony’s instruction is: “Don’t download or install the update using data other than the official update file provided online by Sony Interactive Entertainment.” That warning is about console updates; it does not validate using an update file in an emulator.

For comparison, shadPS4’s documentation discusses certain PS4 modules extracted from a legally owned PS4. That is a PS4-specific process, not evidence of a PS5 firmware workflow. The shadPS4 repository identifies the project as a PS4 emulator, and its firmware documentation describes supported PS4 modules.

shadPS4’s quick-start guide says that games, updates, and DLC are copyrighted and must be dumped from the reader’s own copy; its documented workflow uses a PS4. That does not establish how to dump or use PS5 games.

What to verify before downloading or buying anything
- Confirm the platform. Check the project’s own repository and documentation to make sure it targets PS5, not PS4.
- Check the release and code history. Look for a developer-controlled repository, a current release, and clear documentation rather than relying on an isolated claims page.
- Look for credible compatibility evidence. Verify that claims identify tested games and results, and are supported beyond the project’s own marketing.
- Read the firmware and game-file instructions. Confirm that they are written for PS5 and explain lawful, documented handling—not a workflow borrowed from a PS4 emulator.
- Only then assess hardware. Use requirements tied to that verified project’s current release. Until then, do not buy PC components for PS5 emulation based on unverified specifications.
