Borderlands: Game of the Year Enhanced is the original Borderlands with a documented visual refresh and useful interface updates. The Xbox One X edition is specifically described as supporting 4K Ultra HD and HDR; those display features should not be assumed for every platform. The Xbox One launch announcement also lists all four add-on packs and four-player split-screen co-op.
What changes in the Enhanced edition?
Updated visuals
Steam lists improved character models, environments, weapons and textures for Borderlands: Game of the Year Enhanced. Its listing also promotes play on a 4K display, but that is not a guarantee of 4K output on every computer or console; actual display capabilities depend on the platform and hardware. Steam’s Enhanced listing describes the visual updates.
Map and inventory conveniences
The official Steam announcement archive describes a Borderlands 2-style minimap that can be toggled on or off while retaining the original compass. It also lists options to lock weapons and mark items as junk, making it easier to distinguish gear worth keeping from items to sell or discard. See the Steam announcement archive.
Which platform-specific features are confirmed?
Xbox One X: 4K Ultra HD and HDR
Xbox Wire identifies the Xbox One X edition as “Xbox One X Enhanced, featuring 4K Ultra HD and HDR.” This is a claim about the Xbox One X version, not a universal specification for the Enhanced edition on PC or other consoles. Xbox Wire’s launch announcement gives the platform-specific details.

#1 Best Overall
- Co-op Design - Borderlands is built from the ground up to be an exciting, intuitive co-operative experience for up to four players simultaneously that rewards players who work together and invest in co-op skills. Split screen is also supported.
- FPS Gameplay - In this role-playing shooter, choose one of four distinct characters, each with their own individual skill sets. As your character grows throughout this fast-paced FPS, you choose and customize your abilities to suit your style of play.
- Art Style - The game's distinctive art style combines traditional rendering techniques with hand-drawn textures to paint a bold and eye-catching spin on the FPS genre.
- Vehicular Combat - Jump behind the wheel and engage in high-speed vehicle-to-vehicle combat, complete with spectacular explosions and road-killed Skags.
- Frontier Planet - Search the wasteland planet of Pandora for the legendary alien vault. Fight your way through bandits, discover nine native (and aggressive) creatures, and help the few settlers on the planet in your search for a Vault rumored to contain a great prize - if it even exists.
Xbox One: add-ons and split-screen
The same Xbox Wire announcement says the Xbox One edition includes all four add-on packs and supports four-player split-screen co-op. Those details are specific to the announced Xbox One edition; check the store listing for your platform and exact edition to confirm its included content and features.
Does Enhanced run better than the original?
The cited listings establish visual and interface changes, but they do not provide a reliable, side-by-side performance comparison. Borderlands Support maintains a PC requirements page for Borderlands: Game of the Year and directs readers looking for a remastered version to GOTY Enhanced. That page is not a benchmark showing that Enhanced runs faster or slower. Performance will depend on the system and platform; the available information does not support a blanket claim about which edition performs better.
