Overwatch Season 1: Rise of Talon launched on February 10, 2026, adding five playable heroes, beginning the year-long Reign of Talon story, and bringing a five-week faction event called Conquest. The update also changed maps, menus, communication tools, competitive play, hero roles and balance, and Stadium. The details below describe the launch patch; they do not establish which temporary rewards or balance values remain current in October 2026.
Five new heroes joined the roster
The February 10 launch patch added five heroes at once: one Tank, two Damage heroes, and two Supports. Blizzard’s Season 1 patch notes list their roles as follows.

In the season’s story framing, Domina operates amid Talon’s chaos and is willing to profit from it; Emre is coerced into cooperation; Mizuki is torn between old obligations and chosen family; and Anran fights alongside Overwatch for personal reasons. Jetpack Cat is described as a mobile Support hero. These are narrative descriptions, not assessments of how the characters perform in matches.
Reign of Talon began, with Conquest as its launch event
The labels refer to different things. Season 1: Rise of Talon is the patch’s season heading. Reign of Talon is the wider, year-long story arc that began with the season. Conquest was a five-week faction event within that launch period.

The story starts with Vendetta taking control of Talon and openly challenging Overwatch. Overwatch Narrative Lead Miranda Moyer described the project as a complete story told across the year, using formats including hero trailers and motion comics, with a narrative viewer to organize chapters. Moyer put the ambition this way: “For the first time in Overwatch’s history, we’re telling a complete story.” The arc and its launch framing are covered in her Xbox Wire overview.
How Conquest worked at launch
Each week, players chose Overwatch or Talon, completed challenges for that faction, and worked through a weekly reward pass. Completed passes also contributed to a global faction tally. After finishing the chosen faction’s pass, players could switch allegiance; players who stayed loyal could progress a Prestige Pass. Weekly and end-of-event global faction outcomes affected rewards.

The launch notes listed loot boxes, voice lines, icons, titles, sprays, namecards, weapon charms, and a faction-themed Legendary Echo skin among the rewards. Conquest was a limited event, not a permanent mode; the launch description does not show whether it or its rewards are available now.
Year of the Horse event
The patch scheduled the Year of the Horse event for February 13 through March 2, 2026. It brought back Roadhog’s Catch-a-mari with a New Year theme, with Lunar Pachi to collect and Lunar New Year cosmetics to earn. Those dates describe the event schedule at launch.

Menus, settings, and communication tools changed
The interface was revamped around friends and favorite heroes. A new Notification Hub gathered items such as endorsement rewards and important news, while the update expanded settings. Communication additions included hero-specific Praise voice lines, contextual voice lines for setup and other situations, and a way to ping allied Jetpack Cat to request a pickup. Players could configure Praise and its quick-press behavior.
- Field of View: An option was added on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 5 Pro.
- Audio: Lobby sound and music controls were added.
- Controller settings: Controller, deadzone, and aim-assist options were separated into their own groups.

Maps received story-themed changes
Watchpoint: Gibraltar showed damage from Vendetta’s attack, alongside layout changes to entrances and routes, a destroyed bridge, and adjustments to cover and health-pack placement. Rialto and Colosseo also received story-themed visual updates, including Talon banners; Rialto’s changes included a raised throne. These were both narrative set dressing and, on Gibraltar, map-layout adjustments.

Competitive ranks and rewards
Competitive Role Queue and Open Queue ranks reset to Unranked, requiring players to complete placement matches. The patch also revised Challenger Score rules and rewards, including a Crimson Wolf weapon variant and Doomfist skin rewards for qualifying high-rank players. Eligibility and scoring involve distinct rule changes, so consult the full patch notes for the exact criteria rather than treating those rewards as automatic for every high-ranked player.

The update made extensive hero adjustments and introduced revised role subcategories and passives. It also gave all heroes the ability to see allied health states through walls. The five new heroes were placed in their respective Tank, Damage, and Support roles; exact balance values are launch-patch values, not a statement of the roster’s October 2026 balance.

Quick Play and Stadium
Clash was removed from Quick Play, while its maps remained in Stadium. Stadium also gained a Hero Builder, which recommends builds, bundles, and counter-items.
What the launch update means for returning players
The clearest snapshot of Season 1 is a roster expansion and story launch accompanied by systems changes: five heroes arrived together, Conquest tied weekly faction play to Reign of Talon, and the patch altered communication, settings, maps, competitive progression, hero rules, and Stadium. The dated patch notes establish what launched on February 10, 2026; they are not a reliable guide to the present availability of time-limited events or to current balance values.
