The Nintendo Switch 2 came out on June 5, 2025. Nintendo announced the date on April 2, 2025, and confirmed the console was available on launch day. So the old “coming this June” wording is out of date as of October 8, 2026.
When did Nintendo Switch 2 come out?
Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025. Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 announcement set the date, and its launch-day announcement confirmed the system was then available. Mario Kart World was also on sale on launch day.

What was the U.S. launch price?
Nintendo announced these U.S. suggested retail prices for launch. They are historical launch prices, not current price quotes; prices and offers vary by market and may have changed since 2025.

How quickly did it sell?
Nintendo reported that more than 3.5 million Switch 2 units sold worldwide in the four days following the June 5 launch. Nintendo said this made it the fastest-selling Nintendo game system; the figure came from Nintendo’s internal data, not an independent market audit. Nintendo’s announcement reported the result in 2025.

In its launch announcement, Nintendo described a larger screen, faster processing, magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers that can work as a mouse in compatible games, and online features including GameChat. Online features have requirements; Nintendo’s announcement cited an internet connection, a Nintendo Account, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership for some features. Requirements can change, so consult Nintendo’s launch information and current support terms for up-to-date details.
