Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict released on August 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM PDT (4:00 PM EDT). The update is already available; the earlier 2:00 PM EDT time was the scheduled start of realm downtime for patching, not the playable launch.
Release date and time
Grinding Gear Games’ official FAQ scheduled The Third Edict to launch on August 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM PDT, equivalent to 4:00 PM EDT. The FAQ listed the standalone PC client, Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Read the official FAQ.
Why some notices show a different time
The launch-day notice said the realms would go down at 2:00 PM EDT on August 29 for patching, with servers scheduled to go live at 4:00 PM EDT. The shutdown was a maintenance window; 4:00 PM EDT was the scheduled playable launch. See the launch-day notice.
How the release date was announced
Grinding Gear Games announced August 29 as the update date on August 14, reiterated the launch time in its August 21 FAQ, and maintained the 4:00 PM EDT server-live time in its August 28 launch-day notice. The official notices reviewed agree on the date. Initial announcement.

Was the free-play event the release?
No. A separate free-play event ran from August 29 through September 1, 2025 PDT, and included the newly released update. It was a limited event, not a later release date or an indication of a current offer. Event announcement.
