Pearlescent weapons arrived in Borderlands 4 on February 26, 2026, in a free major update. The update added Ordonite Infusion, a special elemental effect, and the repeatable Ordonite Processor activity, which can reward Pearlescents. Later updates added dedicated farms for named weapons, while some Pearlescents are exclusive to paid DLC.
What Pearlescent gear does
Gearbox describes Pearlescents as rare unique weapons. Their defining feature is Ordonite Infusion: each weapon has an infusion element in addition to any baseline element, and the game uses the infusion when it is more effective against the target’s health type. This can change which elemental damage the weapon applies based on the enemy you are fighting.

The mechanic has specific exceptions. With multi-element Maliwan gear, the active element is the basis for the comparison. Infusion affects initial underbarrel damage, but not beams or later projectiles. It also does not change Vex’s Phase Covenant trait or activate passives that depend on the infused element. These details are in Gearbox’s February 26, 2026 update notes.
How to get Pearlescents
Farm the Ordonite Processor
The free update introduced a repeatable activity available to all players. Start a run by spending Eridium, fight waves of enemies and collect Ordonite, then recycle the material in the Processor to attract Ordonite-corrupted enemies. Those enemies have a chance to drop Pearlescent gear. Gearbox listed Processor locations in Fadefields, Carcadia Burn and Terminus Range.

The update notes do not give a numeric drop rate, so there is no official percentage to use when estimating how many runs a specific weapon will take.
Target dedicated drop sources
Version 1.9, released July 30, 2026, added dedicated drop sources for named Pearlescents alongside world drops. The notes list these targets:
| Pearlescent | Dedicated source |
|---|---|
| Solar Temper | Timekeeper |
| Locust | Idolator Sol |
| Unkempt Herald | Vault Guardian Inceptus |
| Juliets Sparkle | Callis |
| Abyss | Vile Lictor |
| Screwstonian | Vault Guardian Origo |
| Constable | Bloomreaper |
| Gomie | Thol |
The same notes add dedicated locations at Vault Guardian Radix and Subjugator for two additional Pearlescents, but do not name the weapons in those entries. For the eight weapons newly given named dedicated sources, Gearbox also lowered their world-drop rates. If you want one of those items, farming its listed source is therefore a more direct approach than relying on general world drops.
Which Pearlescents require DLC?
The February 2026 update and the Ordonite Processor are available to everyone; the rarity as a whole is not gated behind paid content. Some individual weapons are DLC-exclusive, however.
