Roblox launched in 2006. The company was founded in 2004, so its founding year is not the year the platform came out.
When did Roblox launch?
Roblox says the platform “first launched in 2006.” The company repeated that 2006 marked the start of its history in a 2026 anniversary post. Roblox’s 2022 statement and its 2026 anniversary post confirm the launch year.
A community-maintained history of Roblox lists September 1, 2006, as the public launch date. Roblox’s official statements cited here verify the year, but do not specify that exact day.
Why do some sources say Roblox began in 2004?
Roblox was founded in 2004 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, according to Roblox Support’s company information. That date marks the company’s founding; the platform’s launch came later, in 2006.
