A Stardew Valley baby remains asleep in its crib for the first 14 in-game days. During the following 14-day stage, it stands awake in the crib and can be played with, then goes to sleep at 6 p.m. The later crawling and toddler stages follow a different schedule.
The short answer: “wake up” depends on the child’s stage
The phrase “wake up” is slightly misleading in Stardew Valley because the game does not give a newborn a normal morning wake-up time. The newborn stage is defined by a two-week period in which the child stays asleep in the crib. After those 14 in-game days, the child advances to a second stage and is visibly awake in the crib during the day.

That means a baby does eventually become awake and interactable, but it does not start doing so every morning while it is still a newborn. The useful schedule is a stage timeline rather than a clock time:

Stage 1: the newborn never becomes visibly awake
How long the sleeping period lasts
For the first 14 in-game days after your child is born, the baby stays asleep in the crib. This is a complete stage rule, not a bedtime routine that changes according to the hour. Checking in during the morning, afternoon or evening does not produce an awake version of the newborn during this period.
What happens when you interact
Interacting with the crib during Stage 1 produces a message indicating that the child is sleeping. The message confirms that the baby is present and that the lack of interaction is intentional. It is not evidence that the child is stuck, that the crib is inaccessible or that you have missed a hidden wake-up window.
There is no documented morning wake-up time
The stage lasts 14 days, but the game information does not specify a clock time at which a newborn wakes on an individual day. Do not treat the end of the 14-day stage as a daily alarm, and do not expect the baby to stand up at a particular hour before the stage changes.

Stage 2: the baby stands in the crib and can be played with
When the change occurs
After the first 14-day newborn period, the child enters a second baby stage lasting another 14 in-game days. The visual change is obvious: instead of always lying asleep, the baby stands in the crib while awake.

What you can do during the day
This is the first stage in which the child can be played with. If you visit while the baby is awake, interaction is available in the crib, so the player can tell that the child has advanced without relying on a separate menu or notification.
Why the baby may appear asleep again
The second stage has a fixed evening cutoff. At 6 p.m., the baby goes to sleep and can no longer be interacted with for the night. If you visit after that time and see the child sleeping, that is the expected schedule for Stage 2, not a reversal to the newborn stage.
The 6 p.m. rule belongs specifically to this second baby stage. It should not be used as a general wake-up or bedtime rule for every later child stage.

Stage 3: crawling child
The next stage lasts 28 days. During the day, the child crawls around rather than remaining confined to the crib. At 6 p.m., the child returns to the crib. This is a movement schedule for a crawling child, so it differs from Stage 2, where the baby stands in the crib and simply becomes unavailable for interaction after bedtime.
Toddler behavior
Later, the child becomes a toddler and sleeps in a child bed instead of the crib. Toddlers run to the bed at 7 p.m. if they have a clear path to it. The source description does not establish a separate total duration for the toddler stage, so there is no reliable basis for assigning one.
Do not confuse the 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. times
There are two different evening rules in the child progression. The second-stage baby is asleep and unavailable from 6 p.m. The crawling child returns to the crib at 6 p.m. A toddler runs to a child bed at 7 p.m., provided the route is clear. These times describe different stages and should not be combined into one universal bedtime.
A practical day-by-day way to check your child’s stage
- Count the child’s first 14 in-game days. During this period, treat the crib as a sleeping-only interaction. There is no documented daily wake-up hour to wait for.
- After that period, check the crib during the day. A standing baby indicates the second stage. This is the first point at which playing with the child is available.
- Check before 6 p.m. if you want to interact. Once the second-stage baby reaches 6 p.m., it is asleep and cannot be interacted with that night.
- Watch for the crawling transition. A crawling child moves around during the day and returns to the crib at 6 p.m., so it may no longer be in the crib when you first enter the room.
- Use the child bed as the toddler indicator. In the toddler stage, the child runs to that bed at 7 p.m. only when the path is clear.
This checklist helps distinguish a normal stage transition from a missed interaction. The important observation is the child’s current animation and location, not an assumed newborn wake-up time.
Common misunderstandings about Stardew baby sleep
“My baby has been asleep for several days. Is the game broken?”
Not necessarily. A continuously sleeping baby is normal throughout the first 14 in-game days. The newborn stage intentionally provides no awake interaction, so several consecutive days of the same crib animation are expected.

“Can I wake the newborn by visiting early?”
No documented time-of-day visit changes Stage 1. The source describes the newborn as staying asleep for the entire first 14-day stage and does not provide a morning opening time.
“Why could I play with the baby yesterday but not tonight?”
The second-stage baby becomes unavailable at 6 p.m. If interaction worked earlier in the day and stops after that cutoff, the behavior matches the stated sleep schedule.
“Why is my child not in the crib?”
Once the child reaches the crawling stage, it moves around during the day and returns to the crib at 6 p.m. A toddler also leaves the crib behind and uses a child bed. The absence of a baby in the crib therefore depends on the current stage.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute“Does a toddler always reach the bed at 7 p.m.?”
The documented condition is a clear path. If the route is blocked, the stated behavior does not guarantee that the toddler can reach the bed at that time. Treat the path requirement as part of the rule rather than assuming the clock alone controls the move.

The historical Stage 3 crib-waking bug
The Children page’s version history records a 1.4 fix for most Stage 3 children waking in the crib at the start of the day. That note describes a historical bug fix, not the normal schedule for a crawling child. Ordinary Stage 3 behavior is crawling during the day and returning to the crib at 6 p.m.
If an older save or an unusual installation appears to show a crawling child waking in the crib at day start, separate that observation from the documented stage rules. The history entry explains why older reports may describe behavior that is not intended as the standard routine.
Version and platform context
The wiki search result displays platform/version information for computer, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and iOS 1.6.15, with the page listing an update date of December 20, 2024. It also displays PlayStation Vita 1.02, dated June 20, 2018. Those are the versions shown in the wiki’s platform information; they are not confirmation that no later game updates exist.

Bottom line for “Do babies ever wake up in Stardew Valley?”
They do, but only after the newborn period. The baby is asleep for its first 14 in-game days, then spends the next 14 days standing in the crib while awake and available for play during the day. The 6 p.m. bedtime applies to that second baby stage; crawling children and toddlers follow their own crib and bed schedules.
