Directed Mode, the feature many players search for as “Director Mode,” first released with Black Ops 6 Season 01 on November 14, 2024, for Liberty Falls and Terminus. Later maps received it in separate updates: Shattered Veil with Season 03 Reloaded, and Reckoning with Season 05 Reloaded on September 4, 2025 at 9 AM PT. The official name is “Directed Mode,” so that is the term to use when searching Activision’s announcements.
Release dates by map
Directed Mode did not arrive everywhere at once. Each map’s rollout is tied to a specific content update, so the answer depends on which map you are playing.

For Reckoning, use September 4, 2025 rather than the season’s launch date. The July 29, 2025 Season 05 announcement described Reckoning’s Directed Mode as a mid-season feature (Call of Duty Staff, Season 05 announcement). The September 2 Reloaded post later confirmed the update date and the mode’s inclusion.
What Directed Mode does
Directed Mode is a guided way to play through the Zombies Main Quest. When you start a Directed match, the game marks the Main Quest objectives so you know what to do next. The round count is capped at 15.

Why the name matters for searching
The official feature name is “Directed Mode,” not “Director Mode.” Searching the menus or Activision’s posts for “Director Mode” may return fewer results, so use “Directed Mode” in searches and when reading patch notes.
