The review embargo for Gears of War: Reloaded was reported to lift on August 26, 2025, the same day the game launched. The report that gave that date did not publish an exact time, and it flagged that written reviews could have followed separate terms.
Where the August 26 date comes from
Insider Gaming, reporting by Josh Challies on August 18, 2025, gave August 26 as the embargo end date. It attributed the date to YouTube creator MrboomstickXL, who said his followers would be able to hear his thoughts on August 26 when the embargo lifted. Insider Gaming said no precise lift time had been announced.
The date is therefore a creator-confirmed, press-reported date. It is not a date printed in an official Xbox or publisher announcement. The official Xbox Wire coverage of the release does not mention the review embargo at all.
Date, time and format: what is and is not established
- Date: August 26, 2025 was reported as the embargo end, and it matched the game’s launch date.
- Time: Not stated. No hour, time zone or lift window was published in the report.
- Video versus written reviews: The report acknowledged that written reviews might have had a separate embargo. No source in the available reporting confirms what that separate date or time was.
- Outlet-by-outlet terms: Not established. The reporting does not show whether every publication operated under identical terms, so do not assume one universal deadline applied to all coverage.
Launch facts that frame the embargo
Xbox Wire’s May 5, 2025 announcement, written by Mike Crump’s team at The Coalition, set out the release date, platforms and launch pricing. Xbox Wire’s launch-day post by Danielle Partis, dated August 26, 2025, confirmed the game was available that day.

How The Coalition described the game
Studio Head Mike Crump described Reloaded as a remaster of the original Gears of War, which first released in 2006. In the May 5, 2025 announcement he said: “With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever.” In the launch-day post he said: “I’m jealous of everyone who’s about to experience Gears for the first time because I remember what an amazing experience that was!”

If you are checking an embargo for another game
The Gears of War: Reloaded case shows the limits of a single reported date. To confirm an embargo for another release, look for these in order:
- An official announcement from the publisher or studio that states the embargo date and time, including the time zone.
- A statement from the creator or outlet that gives the embargo for its own format, whether video or written.
- Whether the lift time is published at all. A date without an hour leaves the exact moment unconfirmed.
Where only a date is reported, treat it as the reported date and watch for the first published reviews to confirm the actual timing.
