Where to look for Gengar
Nintendo Life’s Hisui Pokédex guide lists Gengar in space-time distortions in the Coronet Highlands. Head to that region and check Gengar encounters when a distortion forms.
Do not expect a fixed map marker for an Alpha Gengar. Nintendo Life’s fixed Alpha Pokémon roster does not list Gengar among the fixed Alpha species in the Coronet Highlands. That means the guide identifies no fixed Alpha Gengar location; it does not establish that an Alpha Gengar can never appear by another route.
How to hunt for an Alpha Gengar
- Travel to the Coronet Highlands.
- Wait for a space-time distortion to form.
- Check Gengar encounters during the distortion and verify each one’s Alpha status in-game.
- If no Alpha Gengar appears, repeat the process when another distortion forms.
Gamer Guides’ Alpha Pokémon guide describes random Alpha encounters as possible once the region’s Noble Pokémon has been defeated. It does not give a Gengar-specific distortion spawn rate or guarantee that a distortion will contain Gengar. The available guides also do not establish exact coordinates or a reliable percentage chance.

Alternative: catch Gastly or Haunter
If you do not need to encounter Gengar in the wild, the same Pokédex guide lists Gastly and Haunter at nighttime locations in both the Coronet Highlands and Crimson Mirelands. Catching one of those Pokémon and pursuing Gengar through progression and evolution avoids relying on a distortion encounter, though it is not a wild Alpha Gengar hunt.
