Minecraft’s current update timeline says the feature was released for Bedrock in June 2025 and that work is underway to bring it to Java. The Chase the Skies drop came to both editions on June 17, 2025, but Vibrant Visuals was available only on compatible Bedrock devices at launch, according to Minecraft’s launch announcement.
When is Vibrant Visuals coming to Java?
There is no official Java release date or estimated window. Mojang Staff said on February 18, 2026, “We’re still hard at work getting Vibrant Visuals ready for Minecraft: Java Edition.” The post described renderer work to prepare Java for the feature, not a shipping schedule; see Another step towards Vibrant Visuals.
What the Vulkan snapshot means
On April 7, 2026, Minecraft 26.2 Snapshot 1 introduced Vulkan support for Java snapshot testing, with an option to toggle between Vulkan and OpenGL during the testing period. Mojang called it a major step toward Vibrant Visuals. The snapshot announcement does not say that Vibrant Visuals itself is included or available in Java.

This follows Mojang’s earlier plan to refactor Java’s rendering code and introduce changes through snapshots as they became ready. The April 2025 Java development article emphasized performance and stability work, including possible issues with less common GPUs and older drivers. The February 2026 Vulkan update aimed at testing Vulkan in snapshots; that aim was not a Vibrant Visuals release forecast.

How to turn on Vibrant Visuals in Bedrock
- Update Minecraft to the latest version on a compatible Bedrock device.
- Open Settings → Video.
- Under Graphics Mode, select Vibrant Visuals.
- Choose the Favor Visuals or Favor Performance preset, or adjust individual options.
What to expect when it is enabled
- Vibrant Visuals changes graphics, not gameplay mechanics. Compatible existing worlds can use the mode.
- Players in a Realm can play together with Vibrant Visuals either on or off.
- Split-screen is not supported while the mode is active. When multiple players join locally, rendering changes to Fancy or Simple.
- Minecraft warned at launch that performance may degrade on Xbox One, Xbox One S, PS4, and some Android devices.
- For Marketplace content, look for the in-game Vibrant Visuals label. The current feature page says selected content supports the mode; launch-era guidance that broadly excluded worlds and texture packs is no longer a reliable way to judge current pack compatibility.
