ReShade stores its runtime configuration in ReShade.ini and the active visual-effects settings in a separate preset .ini file. For a standard setup, check the folder containing the game’s executable first. To find the exact active preset, open the relevant ReShade.ini and look for CurrentPresetPath; a custom BasePath can change where ReShade keeps configuration files.
Which ReShade file contains the settings?
There are two files to distinguish: the runtime configuration and the preset. ReShade’s official site explains that preset files (.ini) can be created in ReShade’s in-game interface to share configurations.
ReShade.ini: Stores runtime and installation configuration, including path settings such asBasePath.- Preset
.ini: Stores the selected effect configuration. It may be namedDefaultPreset.inior given a custom name.
Shader and texture folders, such as reshade-shaders, hold effect resources; they are not necessarily the file containing your chosen visual settings. The ReShade troubleshooting FAQ describes the shader folder in the game path for its setup.
Where should you look first?
Start in the directory containing the executable for the game in which ReShade is running. The launcher and installation choices determine the exact game directory, but it is the practical first place to check in a standard installation. Look for ReShade.ini and preset files, including DefaultPreset.ini or a file with a name you chose.

How do you find the active preset’s exact path?
- Open the game’s executable directory and locate the applicable
ReShade.ini. - Open
ReShade.iniin a text editor and findCurrentPresetPath. ReShade forum guidance identifies this setting as the path to the current preset: Where are my presets? - Follow the path shown there to find the active preset file. If it is a relative path, check it against the configured
BasePath. - If the path remains unclear while the game is running, inspect the selected preset in ReShade’s in-game interface.
What if the files are not beside the game executable?
ReShade does not have one universal settings folder for every installation. Its forum documentation describes BasePath as the base directory for relative paths and the default location for runtime configuration and related files: BasePath documentation. When a custom base path is configured, check that location as well as the game directory. For the active preset specifically, use CurrentPresetPath in the applicable ReShade.ini as the path reference.
