Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOn Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, saves are managed game data—not files you normally browse in a folder. They may have a local console copy and a cloud copy that syncs when connected and supported. On a Windows PC, the location depends on the game; Xbox Cloud Gaming stores saves in the cloud. The right answer depends on where you played.
Xbox console saves: managed data, not a browseable folder
On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, the console manages game saves through its storage and saved-data controls. Players generally cannot open a normal folder or use File Explorer to browse the saves. Xbox saves can have both a local console copy and a cloud copy; synchronization depends on connectivity and the game’s behavior. Microsoft’s Game Saves sync-flow documentation describes how local and cloud data are handled.
If you are clearing space or troubleshooting, distinguish the console copy from the cloud copy. Microsoft’s GDK walkthrough says deleting game data on the console through the system UI does not, by itself, remove the cloud-stored copy. Read the on-screen options carefully: deletion choices can differ in scope, and a prompt may ask which version to keep. Allow synchronization to finish before deleting data or resetting anything.
Windows PC: the save location depends on the game
There is no single save-folder path that applies to every game installed through the Xbox app. Microsoft documents the Windows known folder %USERPROFILE%Saved Games as a location used by applicable save implementations, but a particular game may store data elsewhere or manage it differently. See Microsoft’s Game Saves walkthroughs and samples for the documented Windows location and local-save handling.

For a specific title, check the game’s support documentation or ask its publisher for the exact path and backup procedure. Do not assume a folder is safe to move or edit just because it contains files associated with the game. If the PC loses network access while you play, save data may remain local and upload after connectivity returns; the precise synchronization behavior can vary by implementation. Wait for the game or app to finish syncing before switching devices.
Xbox Cloud Gaming: saves are cloud-only
Xbox describes save storage for Xbox Cloud Gaming as cloud-only. Because the game runs remotely, a streamed session does not create a conventional save file you can browse on the phone, browser, or TV used to play. See the Xbox Cloud Gaming page.

Using the same save on Xbox and PC
Cross-device progress depends on the specific game and its supported features. Xbox Play Anywhere titles let players continue on another Xbox console or Windows PC with saves and other game data. It does not mean every Xbox title shares a save with every PC release or storefront. Check the game’s Xbox Store capabilities and publisher guidance; Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere page explains the feature.

- Confirm you are signed in to the same Xbox or Microsoft account used when the save was created.
- Identify where the original session took place: Xbox console, installed Windows game, or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- On console, reconnect to the network and give the game time to sync before launching it elsewhere or clearing local data.
- On Windows, consult the specific game’s support instructions instead of assuming
%USERPROFILE%Saved Gamesapplies. - If you changed platforms, confirm that the title supports the relevant cross-save feature or Xbox Play Anywhere.
- On supported PC and handheld devices, check whether the Xbox PC app’s Game Save Sync Indicator is available. Xbox announced the indicator on January 21, 2026, in its January Xbox Update.
Avoid deleting local files as an early troubleshooting step. If the game presents a conflict between local and cloud versions, choosing the wrong copy can overwrite the progress you want. Microsoft’s sync-flow documentation describes local/cloud synchronization and conflict handling.
