For Minecraft Java Edition on Windows, press Windows + R, enter %AppData%.minecraftscreenshots, and press Enter. That folder contains screenshots taken with Java’s F2 key. Bedrock Edition, Windows Game Bar, consoles, iPhones, iPads, and Android devices use different locations.
Find the right location first

Do not look in .minecraft unless you are using Java Edition or a launcher profile configured to use that directory.

Java Edition on Windows
Java’s default screenshot key is F2. Mojang documents that Java screenshots are stored in the .minecraft directory, normally in its screenshots subfolder. See the official Java hotkeys guide.

- Minimize or close Minecraft.
- Press Windows + R.
- Paste
%AppData%.minecraftscreenshots. - Press Enter.
- Sort the folder by Date modified to find the newest image.
The equivalent full path is C:Users<your-Windows-username>AppDataRoaming.minecraftscreenshots. The folder usually appears after the first successful Java screenshot.

If you use a modpack or third-party launcher
The default path is not guaranteed for every Java installation. Modpacks, snapshots, and third-party launchers can use separate game directories. Open the launcher’s installation or profile settings and find its Game Directory or Working Directory. The screenshots will normally be in:

Open Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder…, paste the following path, and press Return:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/screenshotsThe Library folder is hidden during normal Finder browsing, so Go to Folder… is the simplest method.

Open your file manager and go to:
~/.minecraft/screenshotsBecause the folder begins with a dot, it may be hidden. Enable Show Hidden Files, commonly with Ctrl + H, or enter the path directly in the file manager.

Bedrock Edition on Windows
Bedrock is separate from Java, so the Java path %AppData%.minecraftscreenshots may be empty or absent even when Bedrock screenshots exist.
Start in Minecraft rather than File Explorer:
- Open Minecraft Bedrock.
- From the main menu, open Profile.
- Open the screenshots or gallery area, if it is available in your build.
- Use the available view, share, or save option.
Mojang identifies the Profile screen as the place to access profile screenshots in its profile documentation.
Bedrock’s Windows storage location depends on the launcher and installation type. Some recent installations use a path shaped like:

They may be absent, inaccessible, or unrelated to your installation. If you need an ordinary image file, take a new Bedrock screenshot and search Windows for recently modified .png files, as well as the terms Screenshots and com.mojang within your user’s AppData folders.
Windows Game Bar screenshots
If you pressed Windows + G and clicked the camera button, you made a Windows capture—not a Java F2 screenshot. The usual folder is:

On Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, screenshots taken with the console’s system capture control are normally stored in the console’s own Capture Gallery, Media Gallery, or Album. They may also be accessible through the platform’s mobile app, cloud account, or account website.

They are not expected to appear in a Java .minecraftscreenshots folder. Exact controls and menu names can change with the console model and system software.
iPhone and iPad screenshots
For a screenshot taken with the device’s normal iOS shortcut, open Photos → Albums → Screenshots. iPhone and iPad users should not search for a desktop Minecraft folder.

Android locations vary by manufacturer, Android version, and capture method. Check:
- Google Photos → Library → Screenshots
- Your phone’s Gallery or Photos app → Screenshots
- A file manager at
Pictures/Screenshots
If the screenshot was made by Minecraft’s Bedrock camera feature rather than the phone’s normal screenshot shortcut, it may remain in Minecraft’s gallery or application storage. Android Bedrock storage can be configured as Application or External; application data may not be available as a normal, browsable folder. What to do if the screenshot is missing
Use a fresh test capture to identify the correct destination:
- Enter a Minecraft world.
- Take one new screenshot using the same method you originally used: F2 for Java, the in-game control for Bedrock, or the operating system’s capture shortcut.
- Note the exact time.
- Open the relevant folder or gallery and sort by date, or search for
*.pngmodified within the last few minutes. - Open the newest file to confirm it is the Minecraft image.
If Java’s folder is empty, check these possibilities:
- You are using Bedrock rather than Java.
- Your launcher uses a custom game directory.
- You have not completed a successful Java screenshot.
- You entered the AppData path incorrectly.
- Minecraft is running under another Windows user account.
- You used Game Bar or another operating-system capture tool instead.
- The screenshot is visible in an in-game gallery but has not been exported as a normal file.
If F2 does nothing
Try Fn + F2 on a laptop or compact keyboard, check Minecraft’s key bindings, and make sure you are using Java Edition. Another application, overlay, accessibility setting, or remote-desktop session can also intercept the function key. A test screenshot and its modification time will show whether the capture worked even if you missed the chat confirmation.
Taking a cleaner Java screenshot
In Java Edition, press F1 to toggle the HUD off, then press F2 to capture the image. Mojang lists both controls in its Java hotkeys documentation. This changes the appearance of the image but not its storage location.
Does the server or Realm store my screenshot?
No. A screenshot is saved by the client and capture method on the device where it was taken. A Minecraft server or Realm generally does not provide your local screenshot files. Look on the computer, console, or phone used to make the capture.
