Check your Xbox order history while signed in to the Microsoft account that made the purchase. If Microsoft says the refund was issued but you do not see the credit yet, it may still be processing with your bank or other payment provider.
Where to check your Xbox refund status
- Sign in to the Microsoft account used to buy the game or app.
- Open Xbox order history.
- Find the purchase and read the refund status shown for that order.
If you cannot find the purchase, check that you are signed in to the account used at checkout. Microsoft advises people with multiple accounts to verify they are using the correct one. A charge marked “In progress” has not yet posted to the payment option. Microsoft’s order-history guidance explains how to review orders.

What “issued” means—and where the money goes
An “issued” refund means Microsoft has sent the refund onward; it does not mean your bank or other payment provider has already posted the credit. Microsoft advises waiting a few days if the provider has not credited it yet. Refunds go to the original payment option, not necessarily to your Xbox account balance. Microsoft’s refund guidance describes this status and destination.
How long an Xbox refund can take
Microsoft gives two general timing estimates: a refund request may take 72 hours to process, while refunds are generally processed within 3–5 business days and applied to the original payment option. These are not guaranteed deadlines for a particular order or bank; payment-provider posting can take additional time. Microsoft’s support pages do not display publication years for these figures; the guidance was retrieved in 2026.

If the refund still has not arrived
- Check the order status again in Xbox order history and confirm you are viewing the account that made the purchase.
- Look for the credit on the original payment option, including its transaction history; the destination may not be your Xbox balance.
- If Microsoft shows the refund as issued and the general wait has passed, ask your payment provider whether it can locate the credit.
- If the provider cannot find it, contact Xbox Support with the order details. Public support pages cannot show the status of an individual customer’s refund.
Xbox subscription refunds are a separate case
Not all Microsoft subscriptions are refundable. If a subscription charge is eligible for a refund, check its status in Microsoft account order history and follow the subscription-specific guidance at Microsoft Support.
