The Xbox TV sign-in code appears on the television screen inside the Xbox app after you choose Sign in and the option to use another device or a code. Leave that screen open, then visit the web address shown there—commonly xbox.com/tvsetup—on a phone or computer, sign in with the Microsoft account you want to use, and enter the temporary code.
This is not a code in TV Settings, the Xbox mobile app, an Xbox console, or a Game Pass subscription. It is also different from a 25-character gift-card or game redemption code.
How to find and use the Xbox TV code
- Open the Xbox app on your supported smart TV or Fire TV device.
- Select Sign in.
- Choose Use another device, Sign in with a code, or similar wording. Labels vary by platform and app version.
- Read the temporary code displayed on the TV. It may appear beside or above a QR code and web address.
- On a phone, tablet, or computer, open the exact address shown on the TV. The commonly used page is xbox.com/tvsetup.
- Sign in with the intended Microsoft account and submit the TV code.
- Approve the connection and return to the TV. The app should refresh into that account.
- Pair a supported Bluetooth controller, then select a cloud-playable game.
Microsoft describes the same overall TV setup—launch the app, sign in with a Microsoft account, connect a compatible controller, and start cloud gaming—in its smart-TV announcement at Xbox News. The exact code length, wording, and destination can change by device, region, rollout, or app version, so follow the instructions actually shown on your television.
If no code appears on the TV
You have not opened the device sign-in flow
Opening the Xbox app alone does not necessarily generate a code. Return to its account screen, select Sign in, and choose the option referring to another device or a code. Wait for that screen to finish loading before using the browser page.

The app is already signed in
If the app opens directly to a profile or game catalog, there may be no code to display. Open the profile or account area and choose Sign out only if you need to switch accounts; then begin sign-in again.
The code screen is frozen or missing
- Back out of the sign-in screen and open it again.
- Fully close and relaunch the Xbox app.
- Restart the television, Fire TV Stick, or Fire TV Cube.
- Check the TV/device for system updates and the app store for an Xbox update.
- Reconnect the device to the internet, preferably using wired networking or 5-GHz Wi-Fi where available.
- Open the sign-in page in a private/incognito browser window.
- If the code expired, generate a new one on the TV and enter it promptly; an old code cannot be revived.
- Make sure the browser is signed in to the Microsoft account you actually want on the TV.
Use the official website shown on the TV
Enter the address displayed by the Xbox app rather than searching for an unofficial “activation” page. Microsoft commonly uses xbox.com/tvsetup for TV pairing, but the destination can redirect as authentication changes. A legitimate sign-in page should use an official Microsoft or Xbox domain and should not ask you to install unrelated software or provide payment details just to pair the TV.

Check whether your TV or streaming device is supported
Xbox cloud gaming is not available on every smart TV. Microsoft’s current compatibility information lists these categories, subject to model, software, country, and rollout:
- Select Samsung smart TVs from 2020 onward, with availability determined through Samsung Gaming Hub; select monitors from 2022 onward are also listed.
- Select LG televisions running webOS 24 or newer. Some older listed models require a software update, including examples at version 23.20.01 or later.
- Select Amazon Fire TV hardware, including Fire TV Stick 4K Max (first and second generation), Fire TV Cube (third generation), and Fire TV Stick 4K (second generation).
- Select VIDAA televisions. Microsoft’s VIDAA rollout requires VIDAA OS 9.6 or higher on supported devices and is expanding over time.
Check Microsoft’s live list at xbox.com/en-us/xbox-on-tvs before troubleshooting an absent app. A television can belong to a supported brand or operating-system family and still be excluded because of its exact model, firmware, market, or rollout status.

Platform notes
Samsung
The Xbox experience is accessed through supported Samsung Gaming Hub devices. The app and sign-in labels may differ from those on other televisions.
LG
Use the TV’s supported Gaming Portal or app store on an eligible webOS version. Install pending firmware updates before deciding that the app is unavailable.

Amazon Fire TV
Install the Xbox app on a listed Fire TV model. The stick or cube must be connected to the internet and powered, and its Bluetooth controller must pair with the Fire TV device rather than with the phone used for authentication.
VIDAA and Hisense
Microsoft’s July 30, 2026 announcement covers supported Hisense and other VIDAA devices running OS 9.6 or later. Availability is rolling out by device and region. The announcement lists Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate options for the TV experience; see Xbox News for the rollout details.

Do not confuse the three Xbox code types

A redemption code is generally 25 characters and is not generated by the TV app. Use Microsoft’s instructions at support.microsoft.com/en-us/accounts-billing/redeem-a-gift-card-or-code-to-your-microsoft-account for that process.
What each common error usually means

What you need after sign-in
Account authentication and game access are separate. Microsoft says most cloud-playable games require an active Xbox Game Pass subscription and a supported title, although selected free-to-play games may be exceptions. Availability depends on plan, game, platform, region, and time. The TV page does not establish one universal current price, so check the offer shown for your account at xbox.com/xbox-game-pass.
Use a Bluetooth-compatible controller connected to the TV or streaming device. Xbox Wireless Controllers are the straightforward choice; selected PlayStation and other verified controllers may work on supported devices. A controller paired only to your phone will not control the TV session.
Microsoft recommends a high-speed connection and identifies wired or 5-GHz Wi-Fi as preferable, with 20 Mbps given as a performance target for several device categories. Cloud play can also have limitations involving resolution, audio outputs, cloud saves, in-game purchases, user-generated content, companion apps, and accessories.

- Choose the TV app when the exact television or Fire TV model is supported, your connection is reliable, and you want cloud gaming without buying a console.
- Consider a physical Xbox when the TV is unsupported, internet quality is inconsistent, or you need local installations, broader accessory support, or features limited by cloud streaming.
- A supported Fire TV stick can add Xbox access to a compatible HDMI television, but it adds another remote, HDMI connection, power requirement, and device-specific performance variable.
When to contact Xbox Support
Contact Xbox Support after confirming that the hardware is supported in your region, the TV and app are updated, the internet works, you generated a fresh code, and the browser uses the correct Microsoft account. Include the TV model, operating-system version, app version, and the exact error message; never share your password or a live sign-in code with anyone.
