Stream Train stores its Windows save data in %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata. The folder contains the game’s .pog files. Close Stream Train before copying the entire data folder, and keep a dated copy somewhere separate from your system drive. Stream Train (Steam App ID 4071650) also lists Steam Cloud support, but cloud synchronization can fail or create a conflict, so a manual copy remains the clearest recovery option.
Stream Train save location on Windows
The local PC saves are stored here:
%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
%USERPROFILE% represents your Windows user-profile folder. On a typical installation, that means a path similar to C:UsersYourWindowsNameAppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata, although the drive letter and account name can differ.
Stream Train’s save files use the .pog pattern. Keep the complete folder together rather than trying to identify one file by appearance: multiple saves or supporting files may be present, and copying the folder preserves the set of files the game expects.

Find the folder with File Explorer
The quickest method is to paste the variable-based path into File Explorer. You do not need to make hidden folders visible first.
- Quit Stream Train completely. Wait for the game window to close and confirm it is no longer running.
- Press Win+R to open the Windows Run dialog.
- Paste
%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindatainto the box. - Press Enter. File Explorer should open the save directory.
- Look for files ending in
.pog. If the folder opens but appears empty, do not immediately create replacement files; work through the troubleshooting checks below.
AppData is hidden during normal browsing. Pasting the complete path is more reliable than clicking through your profile folders and guessing where hidden directories are located.
What to do if Windows says the folder does not exist
Check the game has run at least once
A save directory may not be created until Stream Train has launched and produced progress. Start the game, create or load a session, exit normally, and then try the Run-dialog method again. If you are looking for an older installation, make sure you are signed into the same Windows account that originally played the game.

Confirm the path was pasted exactly
The publisher folder is Half Past Yellow, the game folder is Stream Train, and the final directory is data. A spelling change, missing backslash, or extra quotation mark can send File Explorer to a different location. Paste the complete path rather than typing it one segment at a time.

Search only after checking the expected location
If the expected directory is absent after a confirmed play session, search your user profile for *.pog. Restrict the search to local drives and inspect results for a path containing Half Past YellowStream Train. Do not move files merely because their extension matches; verify that they belong to this game before backing them up.
Check for a different Windows profile
Separate Windows accounts have separate AppData trees. If another person played on the PC, their saves may be under that account’s profile and will not appear under your own %USERPROFILE%.
How to make a dependable manual backup
A manual backup is a point-in-time copy that you control. It is useful before reinstalling Windows, moving to another PC, changing game branches, or attempting a restore from Steam Cloud.
Recommended Free Tools
- Exit Stream Train. Do not copy while the game is writing a save. A partially copied file can be unusable even when the folder itself appears complete.
- Open the save directory. Use the Run-dialog path above, or leave the File Explorer window open from your earlier check.
- Copy the entire
datafolder. Preserve every.pogfile together. Copying only the newest-looking file can omit progress the game needs. - Create a clearly named destination. A name such as
Stream Train backup 2026-10-18records when the snapshot was made. A dated folder on another drive or a USB flash drive is preferable to an indistinguishable copy beside the original. - Paste the copy and wait for it to finish. Do not close File Explorer or remove a USB drive while Windows is still transferring data.
- Verify the backup. Open the copied folder, confirm that the expected
.pogfiles are present, and compare the copy’s file count with the original. Leave the original save directory untouched until this check is complete.
For an especially important milestone, make a second dated copy rather than replacing the earlier snapshot. Separate snapshots let you return to a known-good state if a later session corrupts progress or saves over the wrong slot.

Where to store the backup
| Destination | What it protects against | Limitation | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Second folder on the same PC | Accidental deletion or an unwanted overwrite of the working files | A failed system drive can destroy both copies | Quick snapshots during normal play |
| Another internal or external drive | Many problems affecting the original folder or primary drive | The drive must remain available and readable | Backups before updates, branch changes, or repairs |
| USB flash drive | Reinstallation or replacement of the original PC | It can be lost, damaged, or disconnected before copying finishes | Portable transfer to another Windows PC |
| Steam Cloud | Automatic synchronization between supported Steam installations | Synchronization can fail or present conflicting versions | Convenience, not the only copy for valuable progress |
A second local folder is not a substitute for an off-device copy when the computer’s storage is at risk. Conversely, a USB copy is not useful until you have confirmed that the files actually transferred and can be opened.
How to restore a Stream Train backup
Restoring is safer when the current files are preserved instead of immediately overwritten. That gives you a way back if the backup is older than expected or contains the wrong playthrough.
- Exit Stream Train and Steam. Closing both prevents either program from rewriting the files while you restore them.
- Open the current Stream Train save directory. Use the same location described above.
- Rename the existing
datafolder. For example, usedata-before-restore. Renaming keeps the current state available for comparison or recovery. - Copy your backed-up
datafolder into the Stream Train directory. The restored folder should occupy the originaldatalocation and contain the backed-up.pogfiles. - Start Steam, then launch Stream Train. Load the relevant profile or continue option and check that the expected progress appears.
- Test before deleting anything. Play briefly, save normally, and exit. Keep the renamed folder until you are certain the restored state is correct.
If the game still shows newer or missing progress, close it without making another save. Recheck which backup you copied and restore the preserved folder if necessary. Do not repeatedly launch and quit while testing different copies; each new save can make it harder to identify the known-good version.
Steam Cloud: useful, but not a complete backup plan
SteamDB lists Stream Train, App ID 4071650, as a Windows game by Half Past Yellow with Steam Cloud support. Cloud support means Steam can synchronize save data between supported installations; it does not guarantee that every local change has reached the cloud or that the cloud copy is the version you want.

Why progress can appear to disappear
- The game may have closed before a recent save finished uploading.
- A network or Steam synchronization failure can leave local and cloud data out of step.
- After reinstalling or moving to another PC, Steam may detect different local and cloud timestamps.
- Launching the game on the wrong branch, account, or Windows profile can make a valid save appear absent.
What to do when Steam reports a conflict
- Do not choose a synchronization option automatically.
- Compare the timestamps and, where available, the progress represented by the local and cloud choices.
- Select the copy that contains the progress you intend to keep.
- After synchronization finishes, launch Stream Train and verify the result.
- Make a manual copy of the verified local folder before continuing to play.
If progress is missing and no conflict dialog appears, exit the game and Steam, then inspect the local .pog files. A manual backup made before the reinstall or PC move is the safest source for recovery. Avoid overwriting that backup with a newly synchronized but empty state.
Manual copy versus Steam Cloud
| Consideration | Manual folder copy | Steam Cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Control | You choose exactly when the snapshot is made and can label it with a date. | Synchronization is automatic and may occur without a separately named milestone. |
| Portability | A copy on a USB drive or another computer can be moved independently. | Convenient on a new Steam installation when synchronization succeeds. |
| Recovery clarity | Dated folders make a known-good state easy to select. | A conflict requires comparing local and cloud versions before choosing. |
| Failure mode | The copy can be incomplete if made while the game is open, or lost if stored only on the same drive. | Uploads can fail, and an undesired version can be selected during a conflict. |
| Recommended role | Use for milestones, migrations, reinstalls, and any risky change. | Use as an additional convenience layer, not as the sole copy of important progress. |
Before moving Stream Train to another PC
On the old PC
- Finish the session and exit Stream Train normally.
- Wait for Steam to finish any visible cloud synchronization.
- Copy the complete
datafolder to a dated location on another drive or USB device. - Open the copied folder and verify the
.pogfiles before disconnecting the device.
On the new PC
- Install Stream Train through the same Steam account and launch it once if necessary to create its folder structure.
- Exit Stream Train and Steam before copying files.
- Place the backed-up
datafolder in the expected Stream Train save directory. - Start Steam and Stream Train, then check the intended profile and progress.
If Steam Cloud offers a choice after the move, use the dated manual copy as your reference. Choose the cloud option only when its timestamps and in-game progress match the state you want.

The folder is present but contains no files
Confirm that you are checking the correct Windows account and that Stream Train has completed a save. Exit the game normally after creating progress, then inspect the directory again. If the folder remains empty, search for *.pog under your user profile and compare the enclosing path before copying anything.

The files are present but the game shows old progress
Close the game, preserve the current folder by renaming it, and restore a dated backup. Also check for a Steam Cloud conflict; Steam may be offering a different version than the local files you inspected.

The game will not load after a restore
Verify that the copied folder is named data and sits directly inside the Stream Train directory, not inside an extra nested folder such as datadata. Confirm that the copy completed and that its files retain the .pog extension. If the problem persists, move the restored folder aside, return the preserved pre-restore folder, and test the game before attempting another backup.
You copied while the game was running
Treat that copy as unverified. Exit Stream Train, make a fresh copy of the complete folder, and check the new copy before relying on it. Keep the earlier copy separately until the fresh one has been tested.
Windows blocks the copy
Close Stream Train and Steam, retry the operation, and make sure the destination drive has free space. If the destination is removable, reconnect it and confirm that Windows can create an ordinary test folder there. Do not delete the source files to make the transfer succeed.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You changed branches or installations
Keep separate dated backups for each branch or installation state. Before switching, copy the current folder; after switching, verify which progress is active before making another save. This prevents a branch change from becoming the only remaining version.
A safe maintenance routine
For ordinary play, Steam Cloud can provide convenient synchronization, while a manual snapshot protects milestones and transitions. Use this routine:
- After an important milestone, exit Stream Train normally.
- Wait for Steam synchronization to complete if it is enabled.
- Copy the complete
datafolder to a dated location when the progress would be difficult to recreate. - Keep at least one copy away from the primary system drive before reinstalling Windows or moving the game.
- After any restore, verify the in-game progress before deleting the old folder or replacing the backup.
This approach gives you three distinguishable states when needed: the current local files, Steam’s synchronized copy, and a dated manual snapshot. If one state is missing or damaged, you can compare the others instead of guessing.
