A Store gift card is usually the safer pick when you do not know which game the new PS5 owner wants. It adds funds to their PlayStation account wallet, which can be used for eligible games, add-ons, and subscriptions. The recipient chooses how to spend the balance.
Which PS Plus plan should you give?
PlayStation Plus has three tiers. The benefits described here are from PlayStation’s plan information; availability and catalog contents can vary by region and change over time.

PlayStation’s US page displayed Essential at $10.99 per month, $27.99 every three months, or $79.99 every twelve months when checked on October 8, 2026. These are US prices shown on a live page, not a promise of future pricing or prices for other regions. Check the recipient’s local checkout page for current rates. Membership renews until cancelled; PlayStation says recurring fees are charged automatically by default, and cancellation ends membership at the end of the paid period.
Can a PlayStation gift card pay for PS Plus?
PlayStation says wallet funds can be used toward subscriptions, so a Store gift card can help pay for PS Plus. However, wallet balance may not be enough to complete a subscription purchase: a payment method may still be required on the account. Check the checkout requirements before relying on gift-card credit alone.

A direct membership purchase and a membership voucher are not always interchangeable. If the recipient already has PS Plus, voucher terms may add time at the same tier, start or upgrade a membership, or convert the voucher into a different amount of time at a higher tier. The outcome depends on the recipient’s plan and the voucher’s regional terms. Check the terms for the exact voucher before buying; do not assume a conversion example from another country applies.

- On the PS5, open PlayStation Store.
- Press the triangle button to open the menu.
- Select More, then Redeem Code.
- Enter the voucher code and follow the on-screen prompts.
This path is listed in PlayStation’s Australia support instructions; menu wording may differ by region or software version. You can also redeem a code online through PlayStation’s official voucher redemption support page.

What to check before you buy
- Account region: Match the gift card or membership voucher to the country or region of the recipient’s PlayStation account. Confirm the seller’s product terms rather than relying on the listing title alone.
- Existing membership: If the recipient already subscribes, check how that particular voucher applies to their current plan.
- Renewal: A direct PS Plus subscription renews automatically by default until cancelled. Make sure the recipient understands the renewal terms.
- What they actually want: Choose Essential for core benefits, Extra for its Game Catalog, Premium for its additional classics, trials, and cloud-streaming features, or a Store gift card when flexibility matters more than a particular membership tier.
