It was announced in 2025 with a preorder window starting September 12, 2025, and general availability from October 30, 2025, according to Sony’s Portugal announcement. To buy it today, start with the official PlayStation Astro Bot listing, which links to PlayStation Direct, then check participating retailers in your own country. Stock varies by market and changes over time, so the listing is the place to confirm whether a unit is currently available.
Where to buy it
- Open the official US PlayStation page for Astro Bot at https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/astro-bot/. It names the product as the “DualSense® Wireless Controller – ASTRO BOT™ Joyful Limited Edition.”
- Follow the link to PlayStation Direct from that page and check whether the controller is listed as in stock, sold out, or unavailable in your region.
- If PlayStation Direct does not serve your country or shows the controller as unavailable, search participating retailers in your country. Sony stated that the Joyful controller would also be sold through regular retailers, but which retailers carry it depends on the market.
Release timeline
Sony’s Portugal announcement set the dates below. These were the dates for that market; the sources reviewed for this guide do not give equivalent dates for other countries.
- Preorders: from September 12, 2025 (Portugal).
- Availability: from October 30, 2025 (Portugal).
Both dates have passed, so any reference to preordering the Joyful model as an upcoming event is out of date. Readers in other regions should look for the local release date on the regional PlayStation store or retailer page, since the sources reviewed do not establish one.
Price
The recommended retail price announced in Portugal was €84.99. That figure applies to Portugal only. The sources reviewed do not state a price for the US or any other market, so check the price shown on PlayStation Direct or your local retailer before buying.

How it differs from the 2024 Astro Bot controller
