Those dates and the launch prices below are historical, not evidence of current stock. To look for one now, check listings in your country and verify the exact edition, seller, condition, and total price before buying.
Where Sony originally offered preorders
For the 2024 launch, Sony named PlayStation Direct in the US and selected European markets, along with selected retailers. Retailer availability varied by country; Sony also said selected retailers in other global markets would offer preorders.
Sony announced limited quantities and these regional launch prices: $79.99 in the US, €79.99 in listed European markets, £69.99 in the UK, and ¥11,980 in Japan. These were Sony Interactive Entertainment’s 2024 launch terms, not current prices.
Can you still preorder the original controller?
No: its announced preorder date and launch date are both in the past. A September 16, 2024 retailer roundup reported that most preorders had sold out quickly. At that time, it listed Amazon US and UK, GameStop, Walmart, PlayStation Direct UK, Currys, and Smyths Toys as unavailable or sold out, and Target as sold out. That dated roundup is useful for identifying retailers that carried listings, but it does not show whether any have stock now. See Push Square’s September 2024 retailer roundup.

If you consider a resale listing, confirm the seller’s identity and the controller’s condition, and compare the full price including delivery. Current inventory and pricing are not established by the historical sources cited here.
Make sure the listing is for the original 2024 edition
Sony later introduced a separate Astro Bot Joyful Limited Edition controller. It is not the original 2024 Limited Edition, so a listing or availability announcement for Joyful does not confirm stock of the original. Check the product name and photographs carefully before ordering. GamesRadar’s guide distinguishes the Joyful edition.

Sony’s 2024 model has blue accents on the handles and buttons, carved sci-fi lines, and Astro’s eyes on the touchpad. Sony also described DualSense features used in Astro Bot: haptic feedback for surfaces and impacts, adaptive-trigger feedback tied to Astro’s abilities such as the Barkster jetpack, and motion controls for the Dual Speeder. These are Sony’s feature descriptions, not independent hands-on findings.
