Where to buy the ROG Xbox Ally X
The higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X has a U.S. list price of $999.99. It includes:
- AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor
- 24GB of memory

Use the ROG USA buying page, the Xbox product page or Best Buy.
Best Buy identified itself as the exclusive U.S. retail partner for the ROG Xbox Ally X at launch. That does not mean every retailer carrying the standard Ally also carries the Ally X. ASUS and Microsoft provide additional official purchase routes, while third-party marketplace offers should be checked carefully for seller identity, model number and price.

| Model | U.S. list price | Processor | Memory | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ROG Xbox Ally | $599.99 | AMD Ryzen Z2 A | 16GB | 512GB SSD |
| ROG Xbox Ally X | $999.99 | AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme | 24GB | 1TB SSD |
Both models use a 7-inch 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, plus Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, according to the Xbox and launch specifications.
Who should choose the ROG Xbox Ally?
Choose the $599.99 model if you want the Xbox-oriented handheld experience at the lowest entry price, mainly play indie games, older titles, lighter PC games or streamed games, and can live with a smaller 512GB library. It is also the more sensible choice if $400 is a meaningful part of your budget.
The limitation is storage. Modern PC games can consume a large portion of a 512GB SSD, so buyers with a substantial installed library should plan for storage management or expansion.
Who should choose the ROG Xbox Ally X?
The $999.99 Ally X is aimed at buyers who want the stronger processor, 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage from the outset. Those upgrades make it the more appropriate configuration for demanding games, heavier multitasking and longer-term ownership.

- 🚀 AMD RYZEN AI Z2 EXTREME PERFORMANCE: Powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme 8-core, 16-thread processor (up to 5.0GHz max turbo) with AMD Radeon Graphics and 24MB smart cache, delivering ultra-smooth performance for AAA gaming, AI workloads, and multitasking.(Japan Version. - 💾 24GB LPDDR5X RAM & 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD: Equipped with 24GB high-speed LPDDR5X onboard memory and a 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD for lightning-fast boot times, quick game loading, and seamless multitasking across demanding applications.

- ❄️ ERGONOMIC DESIGN & INTELLIGENT COOLING: Designed for comfort during extended gaming sessions, featuring ergonomic grips and ROG’s advanced intelligent cooling system to maintain consistent performance under heavy workloads.
- 🎮 WINDOWS 11 WITH XBOX & PC GAME ECOSYSTEM: Runs on Windows 11, providing full compatibility with Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games Store, and other PC platforms—offering a true hybrid experience that blends console-style gaming with PC flexibility.
However, the $400 premium is substantial. The Ally X is not automatically the better value for every player, and processor names alone do not establish a particular frame-rate improvement. Buy it for the additional headroom and capacity you actually need, rather than assuming the most expensive model is essential.
What the Xbox branding means
These are Windows 11 gaming handheld PCs made by ASUS in partnership with Xbox. They are not traditional Xbox Series X|S consoles in a smaller case.
The devices combine Xbox features with Windows 11 and are designed to bring together supported games from Xbox and other PC storefronts. That means access to Windows software and multiple launchers, but also the usual PC considerations: separate account logins, launcher requirements, controller support, anti-cheat restrictions and game-specific compatibility.
“Xbox games” can therefore mean different things: a native Windows PC game, a cloud-streamed title, remote play from another Xbox or a game accessed through a supported service. Xbox branding does not mean that every Xbox console game runs natively on the handheld.
What is included?
The handheld and the promotional Game Pass entitlement are the key inclusions identified in the supplied product listings. The Xbox page advertises three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium, described there as nearly a $45 value. Treat that as a time-sensitive promotion, not guaranteed cash savings: redemption rules, account eligibility and deadlines may apply.
Check the exact retailer SKU’s “What’s included” section before ordering for the current power adapter or charging equipment and any bundle-specific accessories. Do not assume a case, dock, extra charger or memory card is included unless that particular listing says so.
Do not confuse the two Ally X models
The names are easy to mix up:
- ROG Xbox Ally X: the newer Xbox-partnered model with Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24GB of memory and a 1TB SSD.
- ROG Ally X: the earlier ASUS handheld based on the Ryzen Z1 Extreme platform.
When comparing listings, never search for “Ally X” alone. Use the full product name and verify the processor, memory and SSD capacity. A third-party listing with an incorrect title can otherwise make the older device appear to be the newer Xbox model.

Pre-order and launch timeline
- June 16, 2025: ASUS announced the ROG Xbox Ally family in partnership with Xbox. See the ASUS announcement.
- September 26, 2025: Pre-orders opened in selected markets, beginning at 2:00 a.m. CEST. See the ASUS pre-order announcement.
- October 16, 2025: Both handhelds officially launched. See Xbox Wire’s launch announcement.
For U.S. shoppers in 2026, this is a retail purchase rather than a pending pre-order. “Available” still depends on country, retailer inventory and local delivery or pickup options.
Checklist before you order
- Confirm the full model name. Make sure the listing says ROG Xbox Ally or ROG Xbox Ally X, not the older ROG Ally X.
- Match the hardware. The standard model should show Ryzen Z2 A, 16GB and 512GB; the Xbox Ally X should show Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24GB and 1TB.
- Check seller status. Prefer ASUS, Xbox/Microsoft, Best Buy or another established participating retailer. Be cautious with marketplace sellers and inflated prices.
- Verify condition. Confirm that the item is new rather than open-box, refurbished or used.
- Read the subscription terms. Confirm that three months of Game Pass Premium is attached to the exact SKU and review redemption eligibility and deadlines.
- Check local fulfillment. Delivery dates and pickup availability can change by ZIP code.
- Review returns. A handheld PC can involve setup and game-compatibility issues, so understand the retailer’s return window before opening it.
Should you buy now or wait?
Buy the standard ROG Xbox Ally now if $599.99 is your ceiling and you mainly want Xbox-integrated Windows handheld gaming without paying for maximum hardware. Buy the Ally X if you regularly play demanding PC games, want 1TB of storage and 24GB of memory, and are comfortable with the $999.99 price.
Compare alternatives instead if you already own a recent high-end Windows handheld, primarily want the simpler SteamOS experience, or mostly stream games. A less expensive cloud-gaming device, tablet or phone paired with a controller may be enough for streaming-focused use.
Neither model should be purchased on the assumption of exceptional battery life under demanding workloads; performance, heat and battery behavior require model-specific testing. Also, do not treat an ASUS catalogue reference to an apparent “ROG XBOX Ally X20 Bundle (2026)” as a new generation. The available listing evidence does not establish whether it is new hardware, a bundle or a catalogue artifact, so verify its model number, processor, storage, price and contents before considering it.
