In the Google Search mini-game described in April 2025 reports, you catch Pokémon by searching their names and tapping a Poké Ball control—not by visiting real-world locations. The reported goal is to collect the original 151 Kanto Pokémon. Availability may have changed, and it has not been confirmed for every country, device, or browser.
How to start the Pokémon Search mini-game
-
On a mobile device, open the Google app or Google Search in a mobile browser. The April 2025 reports describe slightly different entry points: one says to search Pokémon names in a mobile browser; the other suggests searching “151 wild Pokémon hiding on Google” in the Google app. (FandomWire; Siasat)
-
Look for a Poké Ball control in the Search interface. Siasat reported that it appeared at the lower right; the location may differ or the control may not appear if the feature is unavailable to you.
-
Search for a Pokémon by name. When the result appears, tap the Poké Ball control to catch it and add it to the in-game Pokédex, according to both reports.

If a Pokémon’s name alone does not bring up the game, try searching the name followed by “Pokémon.” FandomWire reports that this can help for some names.
Where are the 151 Pokémon?
They are found through name searches, not on a map. The reports describe a collection goal of the original 151 Kanto Pokémon, with the Pokédex serving as the in-game collection. Neither report provides a confirmed complete list of search terms or explains whether every Pokémon uses precisely the same search flow.

Why the Poké Ball might not appear
The instructions come from third-party how-to articles published in April 2025, not an official Google support page. Current availability by market, device, and browser has not been verified. If the Poké Ball control does not appear after trying the reported mobile entry points, the feature may not be available in your current Search experience; the sources do not establish a setting or workaround that makes it appear.

No. Google’s 2014 Pokémon challenge was a separate April Fools’ Day experience developed with Pokémon and Nintendo and accessed through the Google Maps app for iPhone or Android. It asked players to locate Pokémon around the world. The later Search mini-game described in 2025 reports instead uses Pokémon-name searches and a Poké Ball collection control. (Google Maps Blog)
