1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe detonator is built from three parts: the Distributor, a broken Signal Receiver, and the Relay. The Distributor sits on the Logistics Warehouse roof, the broken Signal Receiver on the Cedarbrooks Apartments roof, and the Relay at the far end of a collapsed rooftop route past Willis Tower. The receiver needs a Repair Kit from BSAA Container 02 at Central Camp before it can be used. Once assembled, the detonator opens the East Raccoon City Main Street gate toward Raccoon City Center, where Leon is headed next.
Detonator parts at a glance
| Part | Where to find it | What you need first | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Distributor | Yellow case on the Logistics Warehouse roof, near the roof elevator area | The generator outside BSAA Central Camp, powered on | Follow the blinking red light on the roof. |
| Broken Signal Receiver | Yellow case on the Cedarbrooks Apartments roof | The hand crank from the stairwell lobby | The roof fight involves mortar fire and armored enemies. The receiver is unusable until repaired. |
| Repair Kit | BSAA Container 02 at Central Camp | BSAA Container Keys, which arrive automatically in a cutscene after the Underground Parking Garage section | Used to repair the receiver during assembly. |
| Relay | Yellow case on the Grimstone Building rooftop, reached by zipline toward Willis Tower | A fuel can, added to the metal gate on the Logistics Warehouse rooftop generator | Requires crossing a collapsed rooftop route. |
Collecting the parts
Distributor: Logistics Warehouse roof
- Power the generator outside BSAA Central Camp. This opens the sliding garage door into the Logistics Warehouse.
- Fight through the warehouse. Zombies emerge from the ground, so keep moving rather than standing your ground in one spot.
- Climb to the roof.
- Follow the blinking red light to the nearby yellow case and open it to take the Distributor.
Once you have the Distributor, Leon can use binoculars to spot the locations of the other components.
Broken Signal Receiver: Cedarbrooks Apartments roof
- From the underground parking garage beneath Cedarbrooks Apartments, go up to street level and enter the open door into the main lobby.
- Continue up to the balcony, where a locked gate blocks the way.
- Go back through the door beside the gate and drop into the stairwell lobby. Search the area among the zombified soldiers for the hand crank.
- Use the crank on the locked door that leads back to the lower stairs.
- Climb back up to the balcony and use the crank on the metal gate.
- Climb the ladder to the roof.
- Follow the red blinking light and take the broken Signal Receiver from the yellow case.
The roof fight is the hardest part of this section. Mortar fire comes in barrages, and armored enemies press in between them. Move during the breaks in fire and shoot the mortar operators. One walkthrough also suggests picking up a mortar launcher on the roof and using it against the operators.
Repair Kit: BSAA Container 02, Central Camp
The Repair Kit is inside BSAA Container 02 at Central Camp. The container keys are handed over automatically in a cutscene after the Underground Parking Garage section, so the container only becomes accessible once that sequence is complete. The Repair Kit is used during assembly, described below.

Relay: Grimstone Building rooftop
- Have a fuel can in your inventory. The guides this article draws on do not give a fixed pickup point for it, so carry one you have found before you go back to the Logistics Warehouse.
- Return through the Logistics Warehouse to its rooftop generator and add fuel to open the metal gate.
- Take the zipline toward Willis Tower and find the stairs.
- Cross the collapsed rooftop route. Expect broken elevators, debris ramps, and planks you need to shoot to progress.
- Shoot the glass panes so the debris falls into a traversable ramp.
- Reach the Grimstone Building rooftop, unlatch the gate, and open the yellow case to take the Relay.
Guides name the final pickup differently. GamesRadar+ places the Relay case on the Grimstone Building rooftop at the end of the zipline route, while GamingBolt describes the Relay as being at the northern end of Willis Tower. The steps above follow the more detailed route. If the in-game map shows a different label, trust the map, since the path is the same either way.
Assembling the detonator
Assembly happens in your inventory, in this order:
- Combine the Distributor and the broken Signal Receiver.
- Use the Repair Kit on that combined receiver assembly to repair it.
- Combine the repaired Distributor and Signal Receiver assembly with the Relay. This creates the detonator.
- Use the detonator on the explosives at the East Raccoon City Main Street gate. The gate opens, and the route to Raccoon City Center is clear.
Keep the Repair Kit until you have combined the Distributor and receiver. Using it earlier on the receiver alone is not how the sequence is described in the walkthroughs.

The route follows GamesRadar+’s walkthrough. Item locations and the assembly order are cross-checked against GamingBolt, and PowerPyx confirms the Repair Kit location and the timing of the container keys. Evil Resource’s item entries cover the Distributor, the Relay, and the completed detonator. These are player guides rather than official Capcom documentation, so if a step does not match what you see on screen, the on-screen objective is the reliable reference.
