The base game of Digimon Story Time Stranger has 20 Outer Dungeon challenges. They are optional, and they are split into five challenge types with four locations each. Each one appears as a glowing red diamond on the map in both the human World and the Digital World. Some are visible right away, while others sit behind breakable objects that you clear with Digi-Attacks. Once you find one, it is registered and can be replayed from the In-Between Theater.
The location list below follows the GameFAQs guide by vreaper, PS5 version 0.9m, last updated August 6, 2026. Challenge rules can change with later patches, so check the in-game map if a location looks different. The guide’s spelling is kept, including “Collosseum.”
How to spot Outer Dungeons on the map
- Look for red diamonds. Each Outer Dungeon marker is a glowing red diamond in the human and Digital Worlds.
- Clear hidden entrances. Some markers are blocked by breakable objects such as rocks, barrels and crates. Use a Digi-Attack to destroy the object. The location notes below name the object for each dungeon.
- Build a route where needed. One Gear Forest location has no direct path. You create the vine swings that form it with Digi-Attack.
- Replay from the Theater. A dungeon you have discovered stays registered and can be replayed from the In-Between Theater.

Time Attack Boss Battle locations
- Akihabara: A Certain Back Alley. Reward: Reppamon.
- Abyss Beach. Reward: Ikkakumon.
- Shinjuku: East Shopping District. Reward: MetalTyrannomon.
- Gear Forest: Shade Tree Pier. Reward: TyrantKabuterimon.
Survive to the End locations
- Shinjuku: A Certain Back Alley. Reward: Raremon.
- Marunonaka Line: Shinjuku Station. Reward: Nanimon. This is the same station used in the story route covered later in this guide.
- Abyss Sanctuary. Reward: Whamon.
- Heat Cosmic: Yellow Flame Area. Reward: Phoenixmon. Break the rocks to reveal this dungeon.
Protect the Giant DigiMeat locations
- Underground Passage. The guide identifies this as the place where you first enter the Digital World. Reward: Dinohyumon.
- Gear Forest Village. Reward: Wizardmon.
- Dark Castle. Reward: Orochimon. The guide says this is easier to reach after you complete the area and revisit it.
- Chill Cosmic: Throne Room. Reward: Eaglemon.
Speed is Victory locations
This challenge is a Peckmon race. According to the guide, you buy the Vade Ticket from the Vademon to the right of the keychain before you can enter.
- Factorial Town. Reward: Witchmon. Destroy the barrel near Locomon to reveal the dungeon.
- Factorial Area. Reward: Lalamon. The guide places it near the end, where Ebemon was or where two Golemon are.
- Abyss Beach (Present Day). Reward: Wingdramon. Go up the ladder and destroy the rocks blocking a cave.
- Paradise Collosseum. Reward: MagnaGarurumon.
Fight the Ultimate Digimon locations
Marks of Mastery are trophies for Digimon you defeat. The Purple Crystal threshold rises at each location, as noted below.

- Central Town: Spiral Waterway. Reward: Pabumon. Turn around from the entrance and destroy the barrels. The guide says this dungeon does not appear until your second visit. Threshold: 10+ Marks of Mastery.
- Gear Forest: Shaded Woods. Reward: Andromon. Create vine swings with Digi-Attack to form the route. Threshold: 20+ Marks.
- Central Town: Downtown. Reward: CatchMamemon. Destroy the large pink crate in the upper area where PrinceMamemon is. Threshold: 30+ Marks.
- Chill Cosmic: Crescent Moon Area. Reward: Slayerdramon. Use the elevator near Birdramon. Threshold: 40+ Marks.
Rewards, restrictions and the trophy
- Restrictions inside a challenge: You cannot change the party from the menu, use items during or outside battle, or use Auto Regen while in a challenge.
- First completion: Each challenge gives the Digimon listed for its location.
- Repeat completions: These generally include money and consumables. A one-time challenge reward is also given.
- Nearby Purple Crystal: After you clear its additional challenge, it grants Talent Awakening Boosters and a lore message.
- Trophy or Steam achievement: According to the GameFAQs guide, completing every Outer Dungeon once is enough. Completing every Purple Crystal challenge is not required. This is the guide’s reading, not an official publisher statement.
The story route into the red rift
The story mission “The In-Between” includes a red rift that is separate from the optional challenges above. The In-Between walkthrough gives this route:
- Go to Shinjuku Station: Vision Square.
- Descend into Marunonaka Line: Shinjuku Station.
- Find the Public Safety Officer near two vending machines.
- Interact with the officers in the back area.
- Enter the red rift in the next area.
The mission then asks you to find Dr. Simmons and capture three BlackGatomon after you enter.

The Halls of EXP, Gold, Materials DLC
The official add-on Outer Dungeons: The Halls of EXP, Gold, Materials is a separate purchase. It is not part of the 20 base-game locations above. Nintendo’s US Nintendo Switch 2 listing describes three halls:

- Access: Nintendo’s listing states, “Outer Dungeons can be accessed through the The In-Between Theater.” The wording is quoted as published, including the doubled “the.”
- Requirement: Steam’s listing says the DLC requires the base game.
- Dates and availability: Nintendo lists July 10, 2026 as the release date on its US Switch 2 listing. Dates and storefront availability can differ by platform and region.
Bandai Namco lists Digimon Story Time Stranger as a monster-taming RPG with turn-based battles on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. The DLC listings above cover Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam only. Check your platform’s store before buying.
