All six graffiti tags in the Ask Your Mom quest appear in a fixed order across the sleeping area, Storage, the Lab area, the sleeping container, the Liquidation area, and the wall beneath the Laboratory sign. Each one reveals footprints in the ground that lead to the next tag, and the chain only advances if you find them in sequence.
Before you start
- Timing: The Bulletin Board unlocks on Day 7. The Ask Your Mom quest begins when Day 8 starts, so there is nothing to find earlier than that.
- Tool: Use the in-game flashlight to pick out the footprints. Without it, the trail is easy to miss.
- Order: Visit the locations in the order below. Jumping ahead to a later tag does not complete the chain.
The six graffiti locations, in order
1. Sleeping area, first tag
At the start of Day 8, check outside the tent or sleeping container. Destructoid places this tag directly in front of the tent. PC Gamer describes it as being on the wall opposite the container door. If one description does not match what you see, check the other.
2. Storage
Go to Storage and look beside the blue toilet, which some guides call a portapotty. The tag is on the wall.
3. Lab area
Do not enter the Lab. Turn right instead and look beside the large white generator near the fence. Some guides describe the same spot as a white storage unit. Either description should lead you to the same tag.

4. Sleeping container
Return to the sleeping area and check the outer, back wall of the sleeping container.
5. Liquidation tower
Head to the Liquidation area and inspect the tower, including its upper section. One guide specifies a green tower and places the graffiti at its top. Another describes it simply as the tower wall, so look at the full structure rather than only its base.

6. Laboratory sign
Find the wall outside the tent area, beneath or near the painted “Laboratory” sign. This is the last tag. Once you have interacted with it, the trail ends and the quest moves to Abe Crow.
Keeping the trail alive
Interact with each tag before moving on. The footprints to the next one do not appear until the current tag has been handled. If you lose the trail, return to the last tag you interacted with and look for the footprints again with the flashlight.

Finishing the quest
After the sixth tag, speak with Abe Crow in Storage. He sends you to the Survivor’s Block to identify the culprit, who is a survivor with paint on their clothes. PC Gamer’s guide describes a reward or reporting choice at this stage. The guides do not document a lasting consequence for that choice.

Destructoid and Insider Gaming published location guides on January 13, 2026, and PC Gamer published its guide on January 14, 2026. The three guides describe the same sequence and the same flashlight mechanic. They are secondary guides rather than official developer documentation. If a later patch has changed quest behaviour or moved a tag, the order of the chain is the thing most likely to matter, so use the object descriptions above as a guide to where to look.
