Secret spot on the plateau west of Aliahan
The Dragon Quest Wiki’s item entry lists a secret spot on the plateau west of Aliahan as one source. GameFAQs’ equipment table identifies the same Aliahan secret spot. Neither source gives coordinates, floor numbers, or a route, so the practical approach is to explore that plateau thoroughly and check hidden or out-of-the-way spots. This location is reached early in the game, so it is the easiest of the field options to return to.
Cloudsgate Citadel (listed as Citadel Tower)
The second field location is in Cloudsgate Citadel. The Dragon Quest Wiki names the location Cloudsgate Citadel, while GameFAQs’ equipment table calls it Citadel Tower. The two names refer to the same citadel-area location, so search for either term. This site is reached later in the adventure than the Aliahan plateau. As with the plateau, the sources do not give exact floor numbers or the chest’s position within the citadel.

Liquid Metal Slime and Metal Chimaera drops
Elevating Shoes are also listed as drops from Liquid Metal Slime and Metal Chimaera. The Dragon Quest Wiki gives community-measured drop rates of 1/64 for Liquid Metal Slime and 1/128 for Metal Chimaera. These are fan-maintained reference figures and have not been confirmed by Square Enix.

If you miss a field location early on, the enemy drops are the fallback. Expect the Metal Chimaera route to take considerably longer than the Liquid Metal Slime route, given the lower listed chance. No time-per-drop estimate was verified, so treat the odds above as the only figures available.

What Elevating Shoes do
According to the Dragon Quest Wiki’s item entry, Elevating Shoes grant 1 EXP for every 5 steps. The entry does not state a date for this information. The effect is passive, so the shoes must be equipped on the character who should receive the experience. Only one pair appears in the sources, so the benefit depends on which character wears them.

Elevating Shoes were originally part of the Trouble-Free Travel Kit, a preorder bonus. PlayStation’s official game page says the kit included one pair of Elevating Shoes, and it also says the items can be obtained by playing through the game. The preorder deadline on that page was November 13, 2024, so that bonus is no longer available to new buyers. Square Enix Support documents the kit and its distribution: for eligible preorders, the code was provided by the retailer or on the receipt, while Steam pre-purchases received the content automatically.
