They only appear when Path of Ambition is active. On Path of Resolve, the same spots show Ravenous Wormspawn instead.
The locations and unlock steps below come from guides published in March and April 2025 (Destructoid and ProGameTalk) and from a Bungie Help reply dated April 11, 2025. Those guides describe Episode: Heresy-era content, and the available sources do not confirm that The Nether, these routes, or the rewards are unchanged as of October 2026. Confirm the path and quest state in your own game before you search.

Activate Path of Ambition first
Path of Ambition has to be active before any Tithing Wormspawn will show up, so the unlock comes before the search. ProGameTalk’s April 2025 guide says to activate Path of Ambition before searching The Nether. ProGameTalk’s Tithing Wormspawn guide covers the locations, and Destructoid’s March 2025 article gives a longer unlock sequence:
- On Path of Resolve, start a Nether: Explore activity.
- Reach the Court of Blades in Hall of Souls.
- Pick up the Tithing Worm under the bridge in the red-lit spawn room. This starts the mission Writ: Path of Ambition.
- Complete that mission from the H.E.L.M. Director.
- When prompted, interact with the altar near the Shaping Slab in Eris’s flat and choose “Embrace your Ambition.”
Destructoid says a character holding a ball of Taken energy at the Shaping Slab indicates the path is active. These are 2025 guide instructions. Menu labels and quest steps may have changed since then, so if the mission names do not match your screen, check the path state before you follow each step.

The ten locations, zone by zone
The full-set guide says the locations are fixed, and that collecting a worm on one character affects the others on the same account. Each zone below lists its two worms, with the start point, boss, or landmark the guide uses. Where Destructoid’s March 2025 article gives a different landmark for the same zone, it is noted as an alternate route.
The Mausoleum
- Worm on a Taken Orb near the boss route. From the starting area, follow the path toward the boss. Look to the left side of the route, facing the boss area. The worm is on a large Taken Orb.
- Worm on a root at the far end of the Ogre-boss area. Cross the platforms and large roots toward the far end. The worm sits on one of the large roots.
The Founts
Destructoid says the Founts are not guaranteed on every run. The area is reached after you complete at least one encounter elsewhere in The Nether. Once you are there, use these two spots:

- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
- Worm near the inactive boss and rune door. Go to the boss area while the boss is inactive, near the rune-covered door. Look toward the boss area and jump to the worm.
- Worm in the underground section below the rune-door area. Take the passage into the underground section directly below the rune-door area, go around behind it, and check behind the large roots near the glowing parts.
Destructoid’s alternate landmarks for the Founts: face away from the large rune door, climb the blue tentacle and then the black tentacle to the bulbous wall growths for the first worm. For the second, enter the passage below the first and search the blue-lit chamber around the white tentacle nexus. The two guides use different landmarks and may describe different route versions, so if the terrain does not match, use the screenshots and cues together.
Hall of Souls
- Worm on a Taken Orb in the objective room. From the starting area, where a barrier blocks the path, take the right-hand route into the objective area. Climb onto the large Taken Orb.
- Worm in a hidden crawlspace below the left route. From the start, take the left route toward the bridge. Look left for two openings below and enter the nearer one. Crawl through the small hole, then drop through the hole in the floor to the worm.
Destructoid’s alternate landmarks for Hall of Souls: from the Court of Blades, cross right over the chasm to the encounter room and check the largest, highest floating Taken Blight. For the other worm, take the back-right passage with your back to the totem hallway, drop through a wall opening, and continue left through the chitinous cave. The full-set guide and the Act 2 article start from different points, so confirm that Path of Ambition is active and use the zone landmarks to orient yourself.

- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
Trenchway
- Worm in a small opening in the tall rock. From the starting point or the Tormentor-boss area, go to the far end and climb the tall rock. Check the small opening in it.
- Worm across from the Ogre Ascendant area. Go to the large crossing and cross to the side opposite the Ogre Ascendant fight. From the broken platform, jump into the small opening to find the worm.
Destructoid’s alternate landmarks for Trenchway: one worm sits on a light-brown rock beneath the tentacle-orb encounter marker, in the area overlooking Saturn’s shattered rings. The other is in a crevice at the bottom of a peeled section of wall across the white-lit chasm, opposite the altar with green energy waterfalls.
Hull Breach
- Worm above the starting barrier entrance. Use the small platforms at the start to climb above the entrance barrier, then look behind the large roots.
- Worm above the barrier-blocked entrance past the boss. Continue past the boss to the barrier-blocked entrance at the end. Climb on top, then crawl through the debris to reach the second worm.
If a worm does not appear
Check the path before anything else. If Path of Resolve is active, you will see Ravenous Wormspawn in these spots, not Tithing Wormspawn. A Bungie Help responder (BNGHelp3) answered a player’s question about a missing quest on April 11, 2025 with this guidance: “you’ll need to be on the correct path, in this case the Path of Ambition, for these worms to show up for you.” The player in that thread reported having 9 of 10 Tithing Wormspawn and asking for help with the last one.

If the path is correct and a worm is still missing:
- Check every location in the list above, including the alternate landmarks, before deciding a worm is missing.
- Confirm that shared progress has not already collected the worm on another character. Collections on one character affect the others.
- If the problem persists, Bungie Help suggested recording video that shows both the active path and each location you checked.
The guides do not establish whether a current bug is behind any missing worms, or whether the routes have changed since 2025. If a worm you expect is absent after all of the steps above, treat that as an open question rather than a fixed fact about the game.
What the collection counts and rewards mean
The guides describe two separate ten-worm collections, one for each path. ProGameTalk’s April 13, 2025 guide says all ten Tithing Wormspawn count toward the Ambitious Collector Triumph and are required for progress with A Hundredfold Path. A second ProGameTalk overview from April 15, 2025 gives the same ten for Ambitious Collector, and lists the ten Ravenous Wormspawn as earning the separate Resolute Collection Triumph. It also associates collecting all twenty with the Heretic title Triumph set. These are reward claims from 2025 guides, so compare them with the Triumph and quest screens in your game before relying on them.
| Collection | Worms needed | Path that shows them | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ambitious Collector Triumph | 10 Tithing Wormspawn | Path of Ambition | ProGameTalk, April 13 and April 15, 2025 |
| Resolute Collection Triumph | 10 Ravenous Wormspawn | Path of Resolve | ProGameTalk, April 15, 2025 |
| Heretic title Triumph set | All 20 (both sets) | Both paths | ProGameTalk, April 15, 2025; not stated in Destructoid’s guide |
The count can look inconsistent across articles. Destructoid’s March 2025 article is titled “All 8” because it covers eight Act 2 worms across four zones. The ProGameTalk full-set guide lists ten worms across five zones, including Hull Breach. The eight are a subset of the full ten, so the “All 8” title does not mean eight is the full collection.
