Kyanite is a fictional in-game resource found in Subnautica’s Lava Zones. For bulk collection, search large deposits in the Inactive Lava Zone or Lava Lakes and bring a Prawn Suit with a Drill Arm; loose crystals in the Lava Castle offer a riskier alternative. The Inactive Lava Zone is beyond the Seamoth’s reach, so plan around deeper-capable vehicles.

Where is the best place to find Kyanite?

The Subnautica Wiki lists Kyanite in the Inactive Lava Zone, Lava Lakes, and Lava Castle. Large deposits occur in the Inactive Lava Zone and Lava Lakes, making those areas the practical targets for collecting multiple pieces. Individual crystals can be found in the Lava Castle. Subnautica Wiki: Kyanite

The Inactive Lava Zone is listed at approximately 960–1,390 m deep. A search-result extract for the biome says this is beyond the Seamoth’s depth limit, even with its MK3 depth module, and identifies an upgraded Cyclops and Prawn Suit as suitable access options. Subnautica Wiki: Inactive Lava Zone

How do you mine large Kyanite deposits?

Bring a Prawn Suit equipped with a Drill Arm to mine large deposits. This is the bulk-harvesting method described in the available walkthrough extract. The Subnautica Wiki gives these yields for large deposits; they are reported community-wiki figures, not independently tested amounts:

Can you get Kyanite without the Drill Arm?

Yes. Individual Kyanite crystals in the Lava Castle can be collected without drilling a large deposit. A walkthrough extract describes this as an alternative, but says the route is more dangerous. The available source does not quantify that risk or establish a time comparison, so treat loose-crystal gathering as an option rather than a guaranteed safer or faster method. Subnautica walkthrough

Approach Quantity Equipment Route considerations
Large deposits in the Inactive Lava Zone or Lava Lakes Wiki reports 6–12 pieces for short deposits and 11–22 for tall deposits Prawn Suit with Drill Arm Requires access to deep Lava Zone areas; exact route danger is not established
Loose crystals in the Lava Castle Not stated in the walkthrough extract No Drill Arm needed for individual pickups Walkthrough describes the route as more dangerous; no numerical risk or time comparison is stated

What is Kyanite used for?

Kyanite appears as an ingredient in several late-game upgrades and progression recipes. It is one component in each recipe, not a stand-alone crafting material: check the full in-game recipe and other required ingredients before planning a collection trip.

Plan a Kyanite run

  1. Check the exact recipe you want to craft in-game and note its full ingredient list.
  2. Choose a collection approach: take a Prawn Suit with a Drill Arm for large deposits, or consider individual crystals in the Lava Castle if you do not have the arm.
  3. Plan access for the depth. The Inactive Lava Zone is listed at approximately 960–1,390 m, beyond the Seamoth’s reach according to the biome search extract.
  4. Allow for variation in deposit yield: the Subnautica Wiki reports 6–12 pieces from a short deposit and 11–22 from a tall one.

Exact safe routes, creature behavior, and platform-specific details are not established by the cited material; consult in-game conditions rather than treating a particular path as guaranteed.
