Platinum Ore is found underground: search caves in the Underground and Cavern layers, and check Floating Islands for occasional deposits. Which layer to prioritize depends on world mode: the ore table lists Gold/Platinum generation in the Cavern and Space for regular worlds, but in the Underground for Remix worlds.
Where Platinum Ore generates
The Official Terraria Wiki lists Platinum Ore as a pre-Hardmode ore that can generate in the Underground and Cavern layers, with occasional generation on Floating Islands. Its ore table distinguishes world modes: regular worlds list Gold/Platinum at Cavern and Space generation locations, while Remix worlds list it in the Underground. These are generation locations, not a promise that every cave or island contains ore. No particular biome or cave type is established as having reliably more Platinum; search the listed layers rather than targeting a special subregion.
Where to search in your world
- Regular world: prioritize caves in the Cavern layer; the ore table also lists Space as a generation location.
- Remix world: search the Underground, where the ore table lists Gold/Platinum generation.
- Either mode: check Floating Islands for occasional Platinum Ore.
How to identify the right layer
The Underground is below the Surface and extends down toward the Cavern. Terraria’s layer boundaries are not one universal depth number: they vary with platform, world size, and generated world. Use the layer context and your world’s map rather than treating a fixed depth coordinate as reliable for every world. The Depth page explains the layer system.

Is Platinum the same in every world?
No. World mode changes the listed location for Gold/Platinum generation, so check whether the world is regular or Remix before committing to one layer. Platinum is a pre-Hardmode ore; the sources cited here do not establish a version-specific depth or a more precise concentration ranking.
