The A Half Times Two hairstyle is unlocked by the item Modern Aesthetics – A Half Times Two, which drops from the treasure coffer in Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic). According to the official Patch 7.5 notes, the item is guaranteed to appear in each party’s coffer when the duty is completed with Minimum IL enabled.
Where the item comes from
Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) is the source of the reward. The Patch 7.5 notes on the official FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone list Modern Aesthetics – A Half Times Two among the items guaranteed to appear in the treasure coffer for each party when the duty is completed with Minimum IL enabled. The notes were last updated on May 13, 2026.
The conditions that matter
Two duty settings come up in the same official notes, and they do different things:
- Minimum IL enabled is the condition for the guaranteed drop. Without it, the Patch 7.5 notes do not promise the item in the coffer.
- Unrestricted Party is a party option that Patch 7.5 added for Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic). It lets you take on the duty with that setting, but the notes do not describe it as a solo mode, so do not plan around running it alone.
If you want the guaranteed reward, enable Minimum IL before you start the duty and complete it. Each party member’s coffer is treated separately, so the item is not a one-per-group drop.

Unlocking the hairstyle
- Open your Inventory after completing the duty and locate Modern Aesthetics – A Half Times Two.
- Use the item. The official item entry states: “Use to unlock a new hairstyle at the aesthetician.”
- Visit an aesthetician in-game and check the hairstyle options to confirm the new style is available to you.
The official notes do not name the aesthetician’s location, so the item text is the only confirmation of how the unlock works.
What the hairstyle looks like
The item’s flavor text describes the style as “two perfectly plaited halfbraids, replete with ribbons.” That is a description of the look the item is named for, not a guarantee of how every character’s hair will render or how much you can customize it.

Can you buy the item instead?
The official Eorzea Database entry for the item lists it under the Miscellany category and shows “Available for Purchase: Yes.” The entry does not name a vendor, price, or method of purchase, so the treasure coffer is the only acquisition route the official notes confirm. Do not assume a specific NPC or market board listing without checking the item page yourself.
Checking whether this has changed
The information above reflects the Patch 7.5 notes and the Patch 7.15 item entry. Later patches can change how Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) rewards work or how the item is listed, so check the official FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone patch notes if the coffer drop does not appear for you.
