It spawns randomly inside chemical and acid anomaly fields, so the practical method is to carry an artifact detector, scan a matching field, and follow its readings. Three named locations are worth trying first: an acid-anomaly tunnel near Old Mill in the Lesser Zone, Poisonous Hole northwest of Slag Heap, and the chemical tank area at the Chemical Plant. None of them is a guaranteed pickup.
How Liquid Rock spawns
Liquid Rock behaves like several other legendary artifacts: it appears wherever its matching anomaly type is concentrated, rather than at a scripted point. An AllThingsHow guide updated August 27, 2026 lists chemical anomalies among the relevant types, along with Gas Cloud, Bubbles, and Fruit Punch. Older guides, including Gamepressure’s page last updated December 3, 2024, describe the same pattern: the artifact appears randomly in acid anomaly fields, and the chance of receiving it on any given find is low. No drop rate or percentage has been published for it.

That means two things for your search. First, you are looking for a field, not a spot. Second, a field that has already produced nothing may still produce the artifact later, because the 2026 guide recommends revisiting a matching anomaly after Emissions, when artifacts can respawn.
Where to search
The three leads below come from guides published at different times, and they differ in how much detail they give. Treat each as a place to farm and scan, not as a coordinate that will reliably produce Liquid Rock.

| Lead | Region | Anomaly type | Detection tool named | Hazards noted | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Acid-anomaly tunnel near Old Mill | Lesser Zone | Chemical / acid | Artifact detector (guide gives general detector guidance; no specific tool named) | Not stated | AllThingsHow, updated August 27, 2026; described as a reliable spot |
| Poisonous Hole, northwest of Slag Heap | Near the northern border of Garbage | Poisonous / acid | Scanner use described; tool not named | Bolts do not neutralize poisonous anomalies; green puddles; gas clouds that move or vanish and reappear | Gamepressure, last updated December 3, 2024; described as a tested farming location |
| Chemical tank area, Chemical Plant | Chemical Plant grounds | Acid puddles | Echo Scanner | Green ground puddles are acidic; yellow mist is a harmless visual effect | Shacknews, November 25, 2024; approach through a redbrick building, past pseudodogs and walkways |
Older guides often give the Chemical Plant as the first place to look. The Shacknews route is the most detailed of the three, but it was published in November 2024, so confirm the layout in your own game version before relying on specific landmarks.
Step-by-step search method
- Equip an artifact detector in your inventory before entering the field. Scanning without one leaves you guessing at which puddle or cloud to inspect.
- Pick a lead from the table based on where you are in the game. The Old Mill tunnel is in the Lesser Zone; Poisonous Hole and the Chemical Plant tanks are reached through Garbage and the Chemical Plant area.
- Scan the anomaly field and follow the detector’s indications toward the artifact. At the Chemical Plant, Shacknews recommends the Echo Scanner, noting that the artifact moves between acid puddles.
- If the field produces nothing, leave it and return after the next Emissions. The 2026 guide says artifacts can respawn at that point.
Hazards to plan for
Liquid Rock lives in dangerous ground, so prepare before you scan. The notes below come from the guides named above.
- Avoid green acid puddles. Shacknews identifies the green ground puddles at the Chemical Plant as acidic, and the artifact can move between them.
- Do not treat every colored effect the same way. Yellow mist at the Chemical Plant is described as a harmless visual effect; the acid is the green puddles.
- Expect toxic gas to shift. At Poisonous Hole, gas clouds can move or disappear and reappear.
- Do not count on bolts to neutralize poisonous anomalies. Gamepressure states this for Poisonous Hole.
- Have first aid kits ready before entering. Gamepressure recommends this for Poisonous Hole.
What Liquid Rock does
All of the guides agree that Liquid Rock provides maximum radiation protection and maximum chemical protection, which is why players hunt it for dangerous zones. The August 2026 AllThingsHow guide adds that it has no downside, maximum durability, and emits no radiation, so it can be worn alongside other legendary artifacts that do emit radiation. These additional properties are the guide’s description; they have not been independently verified here.

What is and is not established
The location method is established across the guides: Liquid Rock is a random find in matching anomaly fields. The specific farming leads are less settled. The Old Mill tunnel appears only in the 2026 guide, while Poisonous Hole and the Chemical Plant appear in guides from late 2024, so their current reliability is not confirmed. GSC Game World’s official “Treasures of the Zone” article, dated November 13, 2024, describes artifacts in general terms: “Among all the wonders of the Zone, artifacts are the most researched and categorized. Yet still mysterious and valued, as their properties are shifting and transforming as the soil that nurtures them.” That statement does not describe Liquid Rock’s location or mechanics specifically.

Start with the Old Mill tunnel if you are in the Lesser Zone and want the most recent lead. If you are already near the Chemical Plant or Garbage, the older locations are the closest options. In either case, the field and its detector readings decide the result, not the coordinate.
