On Windows, Satisfactory stores save files under %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames, usually inside one more subfolder named for your account or a number. Steam Play on Linux keeps the equivalent tree inside the game’s compatibility prefix under steamapps/compatdata/526870. Dedicated servers and consoles use different locations, so the Windows path should not be assumed for them.

Windows: the standard save location

Coffee Stain’s Steam Release FAQ (published in 2020) gives the Windows root as %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames. The game’s official announcements page uses the same root and shows the current account-folder pattern, with a placeholder written as -YOUR ID-. The placeholder stands for a folder name that differs between players, so do not look for that literal name.

  1. Press Windows+R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames and press Enter. The same path also works if you paste it into the File Explorer address bar.
  3. Open the account-named or numbered subfolder if one is present.
  4. Look for files ending in .sav. If none appear at that level, check one folder deeper, since the world files can sit one level below the root.

Steam Play and Proton on Linux

A community report from 2020 places Steam Play (Proton) saves inside the game’s compatibility prefix. The path begins at the Steam library’s steamapps/compatdata/526870/pfx/drive_c/ folder, continues into the Windows user profile, and ends at FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames. This is a community report, not official Coffee Stain instructions, and Linux installations vary.

  • Find the right library first. If you use more than one Steam library, the 526870 prefix may sit under a library other than the default one.
  • Expect differences in the profile segment. The report’s Local Settings or AppData segment may not match your installation.
  • Search instead of guessing. Linux paths are case-sensitive, so search inside compatdata/526870 for .sav files if the path does not match exactly.

Dedicated servers

A single Linux server operator reports that save data lives under ~/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames, with server files named ServerSettings.<port>.sav, where the port number matches the server’s configured port. This is one user’s report, and it does not establish the location for every server build or hosting setup. Confirm the actual server data directory for your installation before copying files, and do not assume the local-player path applies.

Consoles and hosted servers

The official material reviewed for this article does not state console save paths, and it does not document the storage locations used by third-party hosting providers. For those setups, use the platform’s or provider’s current documentation rather than extrapolating from the PC path.

Backing up before you change anything

Coffee Stain’s official announcement advises backing up before trying the Experimental branch so that you do not lose progress. The announcement names two folders to copy:

Moving progress between Epic and Steam

Coffee Stain’s Steam Release FAQ says progress can be transferred between Epic and Steam. The FAQ places the save in the Steam-ID folder that the game creates after your first Steam save, or in the common folder where that applies. The guidance does not cover every current version or edge case, so make a separate copy of the save before moving any files.

Troubleshooting when the file is missing

  • The folder is empty. Check one level deeper for an account-named or numbered subfolder that contains the .sav files.
  • The Steam Play path does not match. Search inside compatdata/526870 in every Steam library, not only the default one.
  • The server save is not where you expected. Check the port in the file name and confirm the server’s configured data directory.
