The most consistently reported spot for the Whirlwind artifact in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is the Eastern Checkpoint, east of Zalissya. Look beside the broken border wall near a Svyat Miner corpse. Official materials do not confirm this as a guaranteed spawn, so treat it as a strong lead rather than a certainty, and be ready to sweep the surrounding area with an artifact detector.
Where the Whirlwind artifact is reported to be
Two independent types of source point to the same place. A 2026 community-maintained Steam guide lists Whirlwind at the Eastern Checkpoint, east of Zalissya, next to a Svyat Miner corpse and the broken border wall. Secondary walkthroughs from Twinfinite and Game8 also describe the checkpoint as the location to search. Agreement between these sources makes the checkpoint the best starting point, but none of them is an official developer statement that the spawn is fixed across every patch or save.

How to search the checkpoint
- Travel to the Eastern Checkpoint east of Zalissya.
- Find the broken border wall and the Svyat Miner corpse beside it. These two landmarks are the reference points for the whole search.
- Use your artifact detector around the wall and corpse. The official GSC Game World support site has a gameplay article on finding artifacts with detectors and a separate section on anomalies and detector use, which describe the general method.
- Follow the detector’s signal to the artifact. Work in small, overlapping passes so you do not skip a patch of ground.
- If the item is not in view, widen the sweep outward from the wall and corpse rather than searching the entire checkpoint at random.
Why some players search at night
A walkthrough reports that Whirlwind glows and is easier to spot after dark. This is a secondary-source tip, not something the official materials confirm, so use it as a fallback if daytime searching turns up nothing. A 2024 video walkthrough that presents itself as a location guide also describes the checkpoint, but it was published on 2024-11-22 and may predate later patches.
If the artifact is not where the guides say
- Recheck that you are at the same checkpoint, since the broken wall and corpse are the only landmarks the guides agree on.
- Consider that spawns can change with patches or saves. If a guide is older than the version you are playing, the location may no longer apply.
- Try a different gravitational anomaly field. One walkthrough excerpt mentions a map of the Ribs anomaly field alongside Whirlwind, but the available text does not show whether this describes a second repeatable source or the same fixed location. Do not assume it is a confirmed spawn.
- Fall back to general detector-based hunting. This is slower, and no source provides a reliable find rate or detection distance to plan around.
What the item does
The 2026 Steam community database classifies Whirlwind as a common gravitational artifact. It lists weak physical protection, endurance, and radio protection effects. These figures come from a community-maintained database rather than the developer, and artifact stats can change between patches, so check the in-game item description before relying on them.

Radiation and equipping it
A general Epic Games Store survival guide notes that many artifact types add radiation buildup when equipped. That guidance is not specific to Whirlwind in the sources available, so do not assume the artifact behaves the same way. Read its description in your inventory and weigh any radiation penalty against the protection it offers.

| Source | Type | What it supports | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| GSC Game World support site | Official developer support | General artifact and detector guidance; does not give Whirlwind’s spawn | Not stated in the source |
| Steam community database guide | Community-maintained | Eastern Checkpoint location, Svyat Miner corpse landmark, Whirlwind stats | 2026 |
| Twinfinite walkthrough | Secondary walkthrough | Checkpoint location; Ribs anomaly reference (not confirmed as a spawn) | Not stated in the source |
| Game8 walkthrough | Secondary walkthrough | Checkpoint location | Not stated in the source |
| Video location walkthrough | Video guide | Checkpoint location; night-glow tip | 2024-11-22 |
| Epic Games Store survival guide | General guide | Many artifacts add radiation buildup; not specific to Whirlwind | Not stated in the source |
Because the location is reported by several guides rather than confirmed by the developer, check any guide’s date against your game version before you travel.
