How to collect coal
Mine a coal vein
Visit Gauley Mine or The Burning Mine and harvest a coal vein. The listed yield is one coal for each vein harvest; the sources do not establish how many veins you will find on a particular visit.
Pick up loose chunks
Search inside Carleton Mine for its two listed unrefined coal chunks. This is a pickup option rather than a vein-harvesting method.
Use a coal deposit for repeat collection
Coal is reported in Ash Heap deposits. General resource-deposit guidance says extractors can be built at claimed public workshops or at or near a C.A.M.P. when a deposit lies within the valid build area. Extractor plans unlock automatically after you complete a Claim Workshop event quest for the first time. These mechanics apply only where a coal deposit is actually available; exact coal-node coordinates are not established. Resource extractor entry.

Can a Santatron Collectron find coal?
The Fallout Wiki coal entry lists a 9.58% chance of coal collection by a Santatron Collectron station. The entry does not specify the conditions or sampling basis behind that figure, so treat it as a community-wiki claim rather than guaranteed output. Fallout Wiki.
