You get Ooze in Valheim by killing Blobs and Oozers. Swamps are the main place to find both, and Blobs also appear at common spawn points inside Sunken Crypts. Oozers are mainly a night-time Swamp encounter. Exact drop counts are listed in community wiki entries that were not checked directly against the live game, so treat the quantities below as a starting estimate.
Where Ooze comes from
Ooze is a Swamp drop. Two creatures carry it: the Blob and the Oozer. Both are described in the Valheim Wiki (Fandom) creature and item entries, which are the reference used here. No game version is named in those entries, so spawn behaviour may have shifted in later patches.
Blobs
Blobs are the simplest source. The wiki lists them in Swamps and at common spawn points inside Sunken Crypts, so you can pursue them in two places rather than one. Each Blob’s entry gives a zero-star drop of one Ooze. Blobs are the more predictable option if you want to fight in daylight, since they are not restricted to night the way Oozers are.
Oozers
Oozers spawn anywhere in the Swamp at night and despawn at dawn. The wiki also notes one rare Oozer spawn point in front of Sunken Crypts that does not despawn at dawn, which makes it the exception to the night-only pattern. Each Oozer’s entry lists a zero-star drop of two Ooze. When an Oozer dies it splits into two Blobs, so a single Oozer kill can lead directly into more Blob fights.

| Creature | Where it spawns (per wiki) | When it appears | Zero-star Ooze drop (per wiki) | On death |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blob | Swamps; common spawn points in Sunken Crypts | Not stated as time-restricted | 1 Ooze | Not stated |
| Oozer | Anywhere in the Swamp; one rare spawn point in front of Sunken Crypts | Night in the Swamp; despawns at dawn except at the Sunken Crypt spawn point | 2 Ooze | Splits into two Blobs |
The wiki entries do not give a measured comparison of how quickly each creature yields Ooze, so neither option can be called faster on the available evidence.
Practical approach
- Go to a Swamp biome. Blobs are the most reliable target there at any time.
- If you want Oozers, wait for night in the Swamp, since they spawn then and despawn at dawn.
- Kill each Oozer and fight the two Blobs it splits into.
- For Blobs in Sunken Crypts, check the common spawn points inside the crypt rather than only the surrounding Swamp.
- Check the Oozer spawn point in front of Sunken Crypts if you want a target that stays past dawn.
What Ooze is used for
The wiki item entry lists three crafting uses: Ooze bombs, Poison arrows, and Muckshakes. The in-game item description reads: “Rotten and putrid-smelling. Why do you want this?” That line is flavour text, not a recommendation.

Quantity caveats
The drop figures above come from creature entries on the Valheim Wiki (Fandom), and the pages themselves were not inspected directly, so the counts could be out of date. Drop tables can change between game updates. Before planning a large crafting run, confirm the current numbers in the game or in an up-to-date creature reference.
