Land animals in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced are hunted on islands; sharks and whales are hunted in the separate harpoon activity at sea. The parts you collect—skins, hides, pelts, leather and bones—feed Edward’s holster and ammunition upgrades, can be sold, or can be exchanged through the upgraded Great Inagua store. Use the location tables below to target the material your next upgrade requires, rather than treating every animal icon as mandatory.
How hunting and harpooning work in Resynced
Land hunts
Go ashore at an island with the animal you need, find the creature in the vegetation, and kill it with Edward’s normal weapons or tools. Skin the carcass to receive its upgrade material and Bones. VGC’s July 9, 2026 upgrade guide identifies the locations below; it is an upgrade-focused reference, not a complete list of every possible spawn.

Sea hunts
At a marked shark or whale location, Edward boards a small boat and starts the returning harpoon activity. You have a finite supply of harpoons, so the encounter is a limited-ammunition minigame rather than a conventional naval battle. Keep the reticle on the moving target, throw when the aim is steady, and continue until the animal is defeated. The resulting high-value resource can be sold at a port or kept for crafting. Ubisoft’s naval deep dive, published May 26, 2026, describes this loop using work-in-progress footage, so individual balance details may change in later patches.
Check the upgrade you are chasing first
Open the crafting or upgrade screen before leaving port and note the exact part required. A holster or ammunition-capacity upgrade may call for a particular skin, hide, pelt, leather or sea-animal bone. That single check prevents a long trip for the wrong creature. Hunting also awards Bones, which become an alternative way to obtain parts once Great Inagua’s General Store is fully upgraded.

Land-animal locations for upgrade materials
The following table transcribes the locations reported by VGC. “Near” and compass directions are deliberately retained because the guide identifies a hunting area rather than a single guaranteed spawn point.
| Material | Animal | Location reported by VGC |
|---|---|---|
| Iguana Leather | Iguana | Great Inagua, near the Villa |
| Hutia Hide | Hutia | Petite Caverne, in the Punta Guarico sea |
| Ocelot Pelt | Ocelot | Cumberland Bay, western Punta Guarico sea |
| Rabbit Pelt | Rabbit | Northwest of Kingston, in Navassa Sea |
| Howler Monkey Skin | Howler Monkey | Cape Bonavista, west of Havana, in Dry Tortuga Sea |
| Red Howler Monkey Skin | Red Howler Monkey | Isla Providencia, southwest of Kingston, near the southern map edge, in Serranilla Sea |
| Wild Pig Hide | Wild Pig | Cape Bonavista or Great Inagua |
| Capuchin Monkey Pelts | Capuchin Monkey | Misteriosa, a late-game destination in Serranilla Sea |
| Crocodile Leather | Crocodile | Matanzas, east of Havana |
| Jaguar Pelt | Jaguar | Sacrifice Island, west of Havana, in Conttoyor Sea |
| Deer Hide | Deer | Northeast of Kingston, in Navassa Sea |
These are practical targets for inventory upgrades, not a promise that each island contains only one animal or that the listed shoreline is the sole spawn.
Sea-animal locations for harpoon materials
| Material | Animal | Location reported by VGC |
|---|---|---|
| Hammerhead Shark Bone | Hammerhead Shark | Northwest of Great Inagua, west of Salt Lagoon |
| Great White Shark Bone | Great White Shark | Cruz Sea, east of Grand Cayman |
| Humpback Whale Skin | Humpback Whale | Southeast of Kingston |
| Bull Shark Skin | Bull Shark | Northwest of Great Inagua |
The VGC list is intentionally compact. GamesRadar+ publishes a broader, coordinate-based table with multiple points for Bull Sharks, Crocodiles, Deer, Howler Monkeys, Hutia, Jaguars, Rabbits and Wild Pigs. It also lists Great Whites in Cruz and Serranilla Oceans; Hammerheads in Eleuthera and Gibara Oceans; Humpbacks in Castillo de Jagua and Navassa Oceans; and Killer Whales in Cruz and Conttoyor Oceans. The same table names Black Jaguar and White Jaguar variants. Because those coordinates are secondary guide data, confirm the marker in your game if a point does not produce an animal immediately.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Step-by-step: hunting an island animal
- Choose the material. Read the upgrade requirement and match it to the land-animal table.
- Sail to the island. Dock at the named destination and move inland toward the reported area.
- Activate Eagle Vision. GamesRadar+ recommends using it to reveal and mark nearby animals; marking first is especially useful in dense foliage.
- Observe the behavior. Deer normally flee, while jaguars can attack Edward. Approach from cover and avoid sprinting directly through a herd.
- Make the kill. The secondary guide reports that assassination, bullets, sword attacks and the blowgun produce the same animal reward. Select the method that keeps you safest and preserves the ammunition you value most.
- Skin immediately. Collect the named hide, pelt, leather or skin and the Bones before leaving the area.
- Return to crafting. Apply the part to the upgrade or keep it in reserve if the next capacity improvement uses the same material.
Step-by-step: harpooning a shark or whale
- Prepare before entering the marker. Check that the target’s material is actually needed and that you have enough harpoons for several throws.
- Enter the activity at the marked location. Edward automatically boards the small boat when the whale or shark encounter begins.
- Track the animal, not the wake. Hold your aim ahead of a moving target and throw only when the reticle settles. Missing wastes a finite harpoon.
- React to incoming attacks. Watch the animal’s approach and be ready to interrupt its attack when the difficulty setting allows it.
- Finish and collect. A successful hunt awards the sea material, which you can sell at a port or retain for an upgrade.
Harpooning is worthwhile when a specific bone or skin is blocking a capacity upgrade, when you want the activity’s direct resource reward, or when you are completing island and sea activities. It is not compulsory at every icon: the Great Inagua store can later replace many targeted hunts.
Great Inagua’s Bones exchange
VGC reports that fully upgrading Great Inagua’s General Store unlocks animal materials for purchase with Bones, including parts normally obtained from harpooning. The guide gives these gameplay values:

| Transaction | Guide-reported value | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase one Bone from the Treasure Dealer | 1,000 Reales | Value reported by VGC; verify against your current game version |
| Animal material at the upgraded Great Inagua store | 3–5 Bones per part | Cost varies by part; VGC reports up to four parts can be needed for an upgrade |
This route trades currency and existing Bones for convenience. It reduces the need to locate a particular creature, but it requires the store to be fully upgraded and may consume resources you would rather spend elsewhere. Direct hunting gives the material and Bones at the same time; the store is most useful when a late-game destination or a difficult harpoon encounter is slowing one specific upgrade.
Hideout buildings that change the payoff
Ubisoft’s “Expanding on the Original” feature says Resynced adds Fisherman’s Wharf to the Hideout. The building increases passive income over time and doubles the effectiveness of skinning hunted animals. That benefit improves the return from successful land hunts; it does not remove animal locations or replace the harpoon activity.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Activity Difficulty and harpoon damage
Resynced’s configurable Activity Difficulty affects harpoon encounters separately from the question of where an animal appears. Ubisoft says the setting changes the damage Edward deals to prey, the damage he receives, and his ability to interrupt incoming attacks. On Hard, an interruption requires a perfect attack. Difficulty can be changed on the fly, so lower it temporarily if an encounter is consuming harpoons or repeatedly defeating Edward, then restore your preferred setting afterward. No single setting is universally best: choose based on whether you need safer practice, faster damage, or the challenge of precise interruptions.
Which route should you use?
| Route | Best when | What you spend | What you gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct island hunting | You need a land part now or want Bones and animal-completion progress | Travel time and ordinary combat resources | The exact hide, pelt, leather or skin plus Bones |
| Direct harpooning | You need a shark or whale material and can handle the minigame | Time, aim and finite harpoons | Sea material that can be sold or crafted |
| Great Inagua store | The store is fully upgraded and you have spare Bones | Three to five Bones per part, according to VGC; Bones may cost 1,000 Reales each from the Treasure Dealer | A selected animal part without finding that creature |
Use the first two routes when you want resources and exploration together. Use the store for a single missing component when the travel or encounter is less attractive than spending Bones.

“The marker is empty.”
Move around the reported area instead of standing on one point. VGC’s entries describe regions, while GamesRadar+ lists multiple coordinate points. Use Eagle Vision, leave the island and return, or check an alternate location for the same species.

“I keep losing to a jaguar.”
Jaguars can fight back. Mark the animal with Eagle Vision, approach from cover, and use a ranged or stealth attack rather than sprinting into melee. If the target is only needed for its pelt, there is no material advantage to choosing a riskier weapon.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →“I cannot interrupt a harpoon attack.”
Activity Difficulty changes interruption rules; Hard requires a perfect attack. Switch difficulty on the fly, concentrate on a clean timing window, and avoid throwing while the reticle is still moving.
“I am short one sea material.”
Confirm that Great Inagua’s General Store is fully upgraded. If it is, compare the part’s Bones cost with the time and harpoons needed for a direct hunt. If it is not, use the sea locations above or GamesRadar+’s additional ocean points.
A spoiler-light progression plan
- Early on, harvest convenient targets such as Iguanas and Wild Pigs at Great Inagua while working on the Villa and other upgrades.
- When Kingston and nearby seas open, collect Rabbit and Deer materials in Navassa Sea and plan the Cape Bonavista trip for Howler Monkey and Wild Pig parts.
- Save the late-game Misteriosa trip for Capuchin Monkey Pelts and keep the more distant Isla Providencia and Sacrifice Island targets for upgrades that specifically require them.
- Attempt shark and whale hunts when the upgrade screen calls for their bones or skins; upgrade the Great Inagua store if you prefer a Bones-based fallback.
- Build Fisherman’s Wharf when available if you expect to keep hunting, since Ubisoft says it doubles skinning effectiveness.
What is confirmed, and what may change
Ubisoft confirms the returning harpoon activity, its small-boat setup, limited harpoons and resource rewards, along with Activity Difficulty behavior and Fisherman’s Wharf. The island and ocean locations, animal behavior notes, and Bones prices come from VGC’s July 9, 2026 guide and GamesRadar+’s secondary location table. Ubisoft’s naval article used a work-in-progress build, and merchant values or spawn behavior can be altered by patches, so check the in-game requirement and store menu before committing a large amount of Reales or Bones.
Practical takeaway
Match the required upgrade material to the shortest reliable route: land animals on their named islands, sharks and whales through harpoon markers, and the upgraded Great Inagua store when Bones are more convenient than another hunt. Eagle Vision, behavior awareness and an adjustable Activity Difficulty turn the location lists into a repeatable farming plan rather than a blind search.
