Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) is unlocked from the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal at X:11.1 Y:14.6, but only after you finish the Dawntrail main scenario quest and speak to the NPC as a level 100 Disciple of War or Magic. Once unlocked, the duty is entered through Raid Finder and requires an average item level of at least 710. These requirements are taken from FINAL FANTASY XIV’s official Patch 7.15 notes.
Requirements before you start
The unlock has three conditions, and all of them must be met before the Minstrel will open the duty for you. The official Patch 7.15 notes list them as follows:

- Quest: The main scenario quest “Dawntrail” must be completed.
- Class and level: Your character must be level 100 and a Disciple of War or a Disciple of Magic.
- Location: You must speak to the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal at X:11.1 Y:14.6.
Entry into the duty has its own separate requirements. Your average item level must be 710 or higher to register. Item level sync for the duty is set at 735, so the minimum is the threshold you need to meet to queue, not the level your gear is set to inside the instance.
Unlocking Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)
- Complete the main scenario quest “Dawntrail.”
- Travel to Tuliyollal and go to X:11.1 Y:14.6, where the Wandering Minstrel is located.
- Make sure your character is level 100 and is a Disciple of War or Magic before you speak to the NPC. A character that does not meet both conditions will not unlock the duty.
- Speak to the Wandering Minstrel to unlock Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic).
The Patch 7.15 notes word the requirement this way: “After completing the main scenario quest “Dawntrail,” speak to the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal (X:11.1 Y:14.6) as a level 100 Disciple of War or Magic.” The unlock is a one-time NPC interaction, not a quest with its own objectives, so there is nothing else to complete at the Minstrel.

Queuing through Raid Finder
After the unlock, register for Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) through Raid Finder. The Patch 7.15 notes describe two ways to enter, and the role rules differ between them:

If you are queuing alone or with a group that does not match the preformed-party composition, the alliance option is the one described in the notes as having no role restrictions. The duty runs for about 90 minutes, according to the same notes.

If the duty does not appear or you cannot register
If you have finished the quest and your character meets the level and class requirements, but you still cannot enter the duty, check the following:
- Expansion access: The Patch 7.15 notes identify Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) as content that requires registered expansion packs. Check that your account has the required expansion registered and that it is available on your platform before assuming the unlock failed.
- Item level: Confirm your average item level is at least 710. A character below that threshold cannot register even after unlocking.
- Party composition: If you are queuing as a preformed party, the group must match the 2 tank, 2 healer, and 4 DPS layout, or it must register as a preformed alliance of 12 to 24 players.
Buying an expansion does not unlock the Minstrel’s content by itself. You still need to complete the Dawntrail main scenario quest and speak to the NPC on the character that will enter the duty.
