Phaenna is the third Cosmic Exploration destination in Final Fantasy XIV’s sequence. You unlock it by accepting Go Forth, Brave Explorers from Searchingway at Sinus Ardorum (X:20.4 Y:20.0). That quest requires a level 10 Disciple of the Hand or Land and that you have already finished Passion, Thy Name Is Ardorum, which sits behind A Cosmic Homecoming and the Endwalker main scenario quest.
The unlock steps, in order
The chain has four links. Each one is handed out by a specific NPC, so the order matters.

- Complete the Endwalker main scenario quest. Square Enix’s Patch 7.21 notes list this as the gate for starting Cosmic Exploration at all.
- Accept A Cosmic Homecoming from Namingway in Old Sharlayan (X:12.6 Y:13.6). You need to be a level 10 Disciple of the Hand or Land. If you have already started Cosmic Exploration, this step is done.
- Complete Passion, Thy Name Is Ardorum from Searchingway at Sinus Ardorum (X:20.4 Y:20.0). This quest requires A Cosmic Homecoming and a minimum Cosmic Exploration rank. The Patch 7.21 and 7.31 notes describe that rank requirement only as “a certain amount” and give no number, so this guide does not state one.
- Return to Searchingway at Sinus Ardorum (X:20.4 Y:20.0) and accept Go Forth, Brave Explorers. Accepting it as a level 10 Disciple of the Hand or Land unlocks Phaenna.
Requirements at a glance
- The Endwalker main scenario quest completed.
- A Disciple of the Hand or Land at level 10 for the Namingway and Go Forth steps.
- A Cosmic Homecoming in progress or finished, as a prerequisite for Passion, Thy Name Is Ardorum.
- A Cosmic Exploration rank and project progress, both described as “a certain amount” in the cited Square Enix notes. The notes do not give the numeric values.
- Access and progression are limited to your Home World. Cosmic Exploration quests cannot be progressed from another world.
Getting to Phaenna after you unlock it
Once Go Forth, Brave Explorers is accepted, you have three routes to the destination:
- Bestways Burrow aetheryte. Use it to travel to Phaenna directly.
- Drivingway in Mare Lamentorum (X:21.9 Y:13.2). Speak to him and select Phaenna.
- Cruisingway on a star you can currently visit. Ask to select a destination, and choose Phaenna from the list.
Those routes are listed in the Square Enix Cosmic Exploration guide and the Patch 7.31 notes.

Go Forth, Brave Explorers versus The Brightest Star
Players often confuse the unlock quest with a later Phaenna quest. The table separates them from the quests around them.
| Quest | Where it is given | What it does | Stated requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| A Cosmic Homecoming | Namingway, Old Sharlayan (X:12.6 Y:13.6) | Starts the Cosmic Exploration chain | Endwalker main scenario quest; level 10 Disciple of the Hand or Land |
| Passion, Thy Name Is Ardorum | Searchingway, Sinus Ardorum (X:20.4 Y:20.0) | Gate before the unlock quest | A Cosmic Homecoming; a Cosmic Exploration rank (“a certain amount,” not numeric in the notes) |
| Go Forth, Brave Explorers | Searchingway, Sinus Ardorum (X:20.4 Y:20.0) | Unlocks Phaenna | Level 10 Disciple of the Hand or Land; Passion, Thy Name Is Ardorum completed |
| The Brightest Star | Phaenna quest chain | Advances the Phaenna chain after unlock | Go Forth, Brave Explorers; an unspecified amount of project progress |
Where Phaenna sits in the sequence
“Third” refers to the order in which the destinations were added, not to the current total. The table lists the destinations in the Square Enix patch notes for the North American English version of the game.
