Look for a locked door or device beside a large blue pillar, then enter the code at its terminal. The most important example is the Pinwheel entrance, which is a restricted central area of Outpost and has more steps than a single code entry.
Where a code works
Outpost is the area where Clearance Codes matter most. Dexerto (Joe Pring, March 11, 2026) says Outpost requires Clearance Codes to reach much of the map. The locked points are doors or devices positioned next to a large blue pillar. Each one is a security console that can present one to three numerical locks.
Codes differ in rarity, and each one can bypass a different number of locks. The sources do not publish a full code-by-lock table, so the terminal itself is the reference. Read the displayed requirements first, then use the code you have that matches them. Do not assume a code you picked up will open every blue-pillar device you find.
Destinations that accept codes
Dexerto lists three kinds of Outpost destination. The table below separates them by what each one is and what to check before you try a code.

Because the sources do not describe a universal key, a code that works at one device is not proof that it works at another.

Mobalytics (updated June 2, 2026) describes the Pinwheel route in the order below. Encounters and requirements may change between updates, so treat the sequence as an overview rather than a fixed script.

- Go to the Pinwheel entrance terminal and note the colors it displays.
- Find the codes that match those colors, then return to the entrance and enter them.
- Clear the UESC forces in the area.
- Activate the blue terminal beside the elevator.
- Use the two further blue-screen terminals inside the area.
- Open the large blue UESC door.
Pinwheel access therefore depends on more than the entrance code. Plan for combat and several terminals, not one quick entry.
How to find Clearance Codes
Dexerto names four sources: security containers, random spawns on the map, defeated UESC robots, and other players. None of these is a guaranteed supply for a given match.

Map locations
Shacknews (Sam Chandler, March 18, 2026) published an Outpost key map covering Access, Supply, and Master Clearance Codes. Its observations are that Master codes have four guaranteed mapped spots, while Access and Supply codes can appear in the general areas it shows. Those are the guide’s map observations and may change with updates, so use the map to narrow your search rather than to plan a specific pickup.
Other sources
Expect to combine these options. Security containers and defeated UESC robots are the sources the guides name directly, and other players can be a source as well. If a particular code is essential for your route, keep looking through the areas you have not searched rather than waiting on one spawn.

What the sources do not establish
- Official mechanics: These are third-party gameplay guides, not a Bungie reference. Confirm current in-game terminal text before relying on any detail here.
- Map marker counts: Mobalytics’ legend reports 4 red, 22 orange, and 17 green code markers. These are counts on that guide’s map only, not a game-wide statistic.
- Separate system: The Cryo Archive Security Clearance system is a different mechanic. Do not treat it as the same as the Outpost codes described here.
- Quoted statements: None of the consulted sources provides an official quote on this topic.
Because the guides cover Outpost in a specific way, the claims here apply only to that area and the uses described above.
