Where Winds Meet has no weapon that is universally best: each family supports a different combat rhythm, and its value depends on your preferred role, weapon pairing, Martial Art path, game mode, and current version. The official descriptions are useful for choosing a style, but they are not a damage ranking or a current PvP/PvE tier list.
How weapons work in Where Winds Meet
Weapon choice is part of a broader combat loadout. The game presents combat as a mix of weapons, bows, and mystic martial arts, while weapon and Martial Art choices shape how a build plays. Your second equipped weapon and the path you pair with it matter too; judging a build by one weapon name alone misses that interaction. See the official launch page and the PlayStation feature on the combat and weapon system.
The descriptions below cover broad identities, not measured damage, frame data, optimal rotations, or performance in a particular activity. They are a starting point for deciding what to try.
Weapon types, strengths, and tradeoffs
| Weapon | Strengths and tradeoffs | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|
| Sword | Official copy emphasizes balance and agility rather than a single extreme specialty. | A flexible, measured melee style for players who value adaptability. |
| Spear | The official description highlights offense and defense, a steady tempo, and a firm retreat; it does not establish numerical range or damage. | A balanced, control-oriented feel for players who want to mix pressure with defensive play. |
| Fan | Officially described as effective at long range; channeling Qi can heal the wielder and other players. | Ranged pressure with a distinct healing and support role. |
| Mo Blade | Official copy describes it as heavy and slower to wield, with the potential to devastate an individual or groups. This is a thematic role, not a measured DPS claim. | Deliberate, high-commitment attacks with crowd-clearing potential. |
| Dual Blades | The official description notes shorter reach, swift strikes, and disabling power against individual opponents. | Close-range speed and pressure, particularly against a single target. |
| Parasol (umbrella) | Official copy describes light, graceful movement with both attack and defense; it does not establish a specific support function. | A fluid, mobile blend of offense and defense. |
| Rope Dart | Officially described as agile, with ranged throws, close precision, and offensive and defensive uses. | Flexible spacing and repositioning. In a July 2026 developer letter, its pairing with Gauntlets is framed around close pressure and tactical repositioning. |
| Gauntlets | Introduced in the 2.0 era, Gauntlets are described by the developers as offering fast combos, strong hit feedback, and explosive burst. | Fast close-quarters combo pressure. A weapon is not a complete build: later path design also combines Gauntlets with Dual Blades. |
These distinctions come from the official weapon overview and the July 19, 2026 developer letter.

Choose by distance, tempo, and role
Preferred distance
If you want to fight from range, the Fan and Rope Dart descriptions explicitly support ranged play. Dual Blades and Gauntlets instead suggest fast, close pressure. These are broad identities, not guarantees about exact attack distance or how a specific encounter will play.
Tempo and commitment
Dual Blades are described as swift and Gauntlets as fast-combo weapons, while the Mo Blade is described as slower and heavier. Consider whether you prefer quick pressure or attacks with a more deliberate commitment; official role language does not establish which deals more damage.

Combat role
The Fan has an explicitly stated healing role as well as ranged combat. The Spear is framed around offense and defense, and the Parasol around graceful attack and defense. The Sword is presented as balanced and agile. These descriptions can help narrow your choices without implying that every weapon has the same function in every mode.
Pairing and Martial Art path
Think about what your second weapon and its Martial Art add to the role you want. The July 2026 developer letter describes Gauntlets paired with Rope Dart as a way to combine close-quarters pressure with repositioning. A September 2026 letter offers another example of path development involving Gauntlets and Dual Blades. Those combinations illustrate how a build can shape a weapon’s role; they do not prove that either pairing is optimal.

Is there a best weapon?
Not as a permanent, mode-independent answer. “Best” depends on what you want to do—such as heal, control spacing, apply close pressure, or make heavier commitments—and on the game mode, paired weapon, Martial Art path, and current balance. The official descriptions do not provide an authoritative quantitative comparison across all weapon families, so they cannot establish a universal winner or settle comparative DPS, pick rates, or win rates.
Balance and combat paths change over time. The Version 1.7 adjustment announcement of May 28, 2026 documents balance changes, while the September 7, 2026 developer letter shows continued path development. Treat any ranking as specific to its mode and patch, and look for current evidence before relying on it. An official September 30, 2026 Version 2.2 appearance notice concerns cosmetics, including a Rope Dart appearance and Mortal Rope Dart visual effect; it is not evidence of a new weapon family.

- Choose a role: decide whether you want ranged play, healing, balanced offense and defense, fast close pressure, or slower, heavier attacks.
- Pick a second weapon: consider whether its style complements your preferred role or adds a different option for another encounter.
- Compare the Martial Art path: check how the path changes the pairing rather than assuming the weapon family alone defines the build.
- Try the moves and current path descriptions in game: use what you learn to decide whether to commit upgrade resources, rather than treating broad promotional descriptions as performance data.
- Recheck claims about rankings: look for the mode and version attached to any claim that a weapon is top tier.
This approach follows the game’s paired-loadout framing; it is not a claim based on personal testing. The combat designer told TechRadar in a July 29, 2025 interview that the goal was to give players a tool for different environments and encounters. That is a design aim, not proof that every weapon is equally effective in every situation: TechRadar’s interview with combat designer Zen.
