There is no verified one-plane-first answer for every Ace Combat 8 player. Prioritize a fighter or dogfighting multirole plane for air combat, an attacker or strike-capable multirole plane for ground support, and a carrier-compatible aircraft with the right special weapon for naval missions. These are role-based recommendations—not claims about the earliest unlocks or best MRP value. Check each briefing before spending.
Which aircraft should you prioritize by mission type?

Bandai Namco’s official aircraft roster describes these aircraft by role and capability. It does not establish that any example is an early unlock or the best purchase for its mission family.
For dogfights, choose air-combat capability
The F-22A is listed as a fighter, with the official description emphasizing maneuverability and air-combat superiority. The Su-35S is a multirole alternative described as a capable dogfighter with both air-to-air and air-to-ground armaments. If you want one aircraft that can cover more than one target type, that role description makes the Su-35S a candidate to assess—but it does not prove it is a better-value or earlier unlock.
For ground support, match the weapon to the objective
The A-10C is identified as a durable close-air-support attacker with air-to-ground weapons. The F-15E is described as a strike fighter with baseline air-combat capability and more weaponry than a standard fighter. Either illustrates the attacker route, but the right choice depends on the mission’s targets and the special weapon available for that plane.

Ground-attack aircraft may also be useful beyond missions explicitly labeled as ground support. PC Gamer’s launch review says air-to-ground-specialized aircraft remained viable for much of the campaign’s free-form annihilation missions, which use target-score goals. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee for every mission or difficulty.
For naval strikes, check carrier compatibility before buying
Naval missions require more than a plane with a suitable weapon: the briefing may limit which aircraft can launch. The official overview describes air-to-sea sorties against threats to the carrier, while the official roster identifies the Rafale M as a carrier aircraft with air-superiority, interdiction, reconnaissance, and air-support roles.

Clayton Ashley’s Tom’s Guide review, published October 3, 2026, reports that some mid-game missions restricted aircraft to carrier-capable planes. Treat that as a warning to read the briefing, not as evidence that every naval sortie—or every mid-game mission—has the same restriction.
How to spend MRP without locking into the wrong plane
The official walkthrough says to use MRP earned in missions to unlock additional fighter jets and recommends choosing aircraft for the objective and your playstyle, then selecting special weapons and combining upgrade parts to tailor the aircraft. A launch review also reports that MRP purchases include weapons and upgrades, so an aircraft competes with those improvements for your balance.

- Read the mission briefing. Identify the main objective, target mix, and any aircraft or launch restrictions.
- Check the plane’s role and special weapon. A role label alone does not tell you whether the available weapon fits that sortie.
- Compare the purchase with your current loadout. If your existing aircraft can handle the mission after a weapon or upgrade purchase, consider whether that solves a more immediate need.
- Unlock for a gap you actually have. Choose a dogfighter, attacker, or carrier-capable option when it fills a recurring need—not solely because it appears higher-tier.
Neither the official pages nor the cited launch reviews provide a reliable complete unlock-cost or purchase-order table, or comparative MRP-efficiency figures. There is therefore no substantiated price ranking to use in place of checking your own aircraft tree and mission requirements.

Start with the mission family you find hardest and buy for that role: air-combat capability for dogfights, strike capability for ground support, or carrier compatibility and suitable weapons for naval sorties. If you are unsure, wait until the next briefing makes the need concrete; the official guidance is to tailor aircraft and special weapons to each mission, not to follow a universal purchase order.
