The official feature list names several options, and which one you can use depends on your GPU. The practical approach is to start with the option your graphics card supports, then compare the modes yourself in the same scene at the same resolution and settings. Choose the one whose edges and fine detail you prefer while still hitting your frame-rate target.
What the Remastered PC version officially offers
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered feature announcement, published 28 September 2026, lists the following options. Hardware notes are taken from that announcement.
| Option | Listed alongside | Hardware requirement in the official list |
|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 | Ray Reconstruction | NVIDIA GPUs; the announcement does not state a minimum GPU generation |
| AMD FSR 4 | Frame Generation, Anti-Lag 2 | AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer. Unsupported GPUs use FSR 2 instead |
| Intel XeSS 2.0 | Frame Generation, Low Latency | Intel-listed option; the announcement does not state a minimum GPU generation |
| PSSR | PlayStation 5 Pro feature list | PlayStation 5 Pro only |
These are the current options for this edition, but they are tied to version and hardware. Older lists from the 2022 next-gen update announcement named FSR 2.1 and DLSS 3 instead. Do not treat those as the current Remastered options.
How to choose a mode for your setup
- Confirm your edition and platform. This guidance covers the Remastered version on PC. Console modes are not interchangeable with PC modes.
- Pick a mode your GPU supports. On an AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series or newer card, FSR 4 is available. On an older AMD card, the game falls back to FSR 2. NVIDIA owners can select DLSS 4.5, and Intel owners can select XeSS 2.0.
- Compare in the same scene. Use the same scene, the same output resolution, and the same graphics settings for each mode. Changing several variables at once makes the results meaningless.
- Judge the two things that matter most to you. Look at edge stability in motion and at fine detail such as foliage, hair, and distant objects. Then check the frame rate at your target resolution.
- Recheck the displayed mode after switching. Confirm that the mode you selected is the one actually running. Patch 5.01 addressed cases where this was wrong, as described below.
This method is a sensible way to decide. It is not a published, controlled image-quality ranking. The official sources do not rank the modes against each other for image quality across GPUs and resolutions, so any claim that one mode always looks best would go beyond the evidence.

What Patch 5.01 changed
CD PROJEKT RED’s Patch 5.01 notes, dated 8 October 2026, describe three fixes that matter for this choice:
- A Dynamic Resolution Scaling display issue triggered by changing the Anti-Aliasing mode is fixed.
- Presets that selected DLSS or XeSS on GPUs that do not support them are fixed.
- The default for Dynamic Resolution Scaling is now off.
The practical consequence is that you should check your settings after you change the anti-aliasing mode, particularly if you have used a preset. If Dynamic Resolution Scaling is on, the resolution you see may not be the one you expect, which would distort any comparison.

Reading performance figures correctly
CD PROJEKT RED states that performance varies with system configuration, graphics settings, and output resolution. Its updated PC requirements page shows that the ray-tracing and path-tracing configurations in its performance table have DLSS, FSR, and XeSS set to Auto. The other configurations are run at native resolution with upscaling off.
That means a performance table is not a clean anti-aliasing comparison. If you want to know how a single mode affects frame rate, change only that mode and keep everything else fixed. Do not compare a ray-tracing preset against a native-resolution preset and attribute the difference to anti-aliasing.

Why the original game’s hair looked different
Readers who remember the 2015 release may recall that hair rendering was handled separately. NVIDIA’s 2015 graphics guide for the original game states that its HairWorks implementation applied MSAA directly to the hair, independently of the player’s general anti-aliasing setting. This is a historical detail about the original release. It does not show that MSAA is the best general mode in the Remastered version, and the Remastered feature list does not present MSAA as a current option.
Practical takeaways
- Use the option your GPU supports: DLSS 4.5 on NVIDIA, FSR 4 on supported AMD cards with FSR 2 as the fallback, or XeSS 2.0 where listed for your hardware.
- Compare modes one variable at a time, in the same scene, at the same resolution.
- Recheck the displayed mode and the Dynamic Resolution Scaling setting after you switch modes.
- Read performance tables with their preset differences in mind.
The right choice is the mode that looks best to you at a frame rate you are happy with on your own system.
