For most players, buy the Standard Edition of Hogwarts Legacy. It contains the base game and the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest. Choose Deluxe only if you specifically want the additional Dark Arts content and Thestral Mount listed on the official purchase page.
This article assumes “Harry Potter RPG” means Hogwarts Legacy, the open-world action RPG set in the wizarding world during the 1800s. Because edition names, formats, prices and platform entitlements can vary by region, select your platform first and verify the exact local store listing before paying.

The short answer: Standard is the sensible default
The Standard Edition gives you the complete core Hogwarts Legacy game, including the main adventure and the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest. For a first-time player who mainly wants to explore Hogwarts, attend classes, learn spells and follow the story, that is the essential purchase.

There is no reliable universal price verdict because the captured official listings do not establish a stable cross-region price. A Deluxe discount can make the upgrade attractive, while a small local price gap may be worthwhile for fans of the extra content. Check the live listing for your platform and region rather than relying on an old launch price.

This comparison follows the current official purchase-page description. “Not listed” means the item is not included in that edition’s official contents, not that the item is unavailable in every other way or on every platform. Regional storefronts can present different bundles, so read the contents panel attached to the product you are actually buying.
What the extra Deluxe content means for your decision
Dark Arts Pack
The Dark Arts Pack is listed as a Deluxe addition. If you want the complete Dark Arts-themed bundle advertised by the publisher, Deluxe is the edition that supplies it. The official listing does not establish a separate price for buying this pack later, so do not assume that a future standalone upgrade will cost less than the edition difference.

Thestral Mount
Deluxe includes a Thestral Mount. A mount is a meaningful attraction for players who care about how they travel through the game world or want the edition’s distinctive cosmetic theme. Standard remains the better fit if you are indifferent to an additional mount and only want the base adventure.

Dark Arts Cosmetic Set
The Cosmetic Set is an appearance-focused addition. Choose Deluxe for access to this specific look; do not buy it expecting a different story campaign unless the local listing explicitly says otherwise.
Dark Arts Battle Arena
The Dark Arts Battle Arena is named as part of the Deluxe package. It is a separate Dark Arts-themed activity listed alongside the other extras. The official comparison establishes its inclusion, but the edition page does not provide a universal description of its rules, rewards or progression impact. Treat the title as the confirmed feature and consult the in-game or platform description for operational details.
Dark Arts Garrison Hat
The Dark Arts Garrison Hat is the item most likely to cause confusion. The official buy page specifically marks it as exclusive to Digital Deluxe. If you are purchasing a physical product, or a listing that does not say “Digital Deluxe,” check the contents carefully rather than assuming the hat is included.

- Story-first players: You want the core Hogwarts adventure and have little interest in themed cosmetics or a special mount.
- Players watching the budget: Prices are set by region, platform and promotion, so Standard is the safer choice when Deluxe costs substantially more.
- Gift buyers: Standard reduces the risk of paying for extras the recipient may not use. Confirm the recipient’s platform before purchasing.
- Players buying physical copies: A physical listing may not match the digital bundle. Standard is easier to evaluate when the box clearly identifies the included content.
Standard is not a trial version or a cut-down campaign. The official page lists the base game and Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest, which are the core components most buyers are seeking.

Who should buy Deluxe?
- Dark Arts collectors: You want every Dark Arts item named on the official Deluxe comparison.
- Mount-focused players: The Thestral Mount is a deciding feature rather than an incidental bonus for you.
- Cosmetic enthusiasts: You specifically want the Dark Arts Cosmetic Set and Digital Deluxe-exclusive Garrison Hat.
- Arena players: The Dark Arts Battle Arena is important enough to justify the price difference.
- Buyers finding a small sale gap: If the local Deluxe listing is only modestly more expensive than Standard, the bundle can offer better personal value, provided all listed items appear in your platform’s listing.
Do not choose Deluxe because of launch-era early access. That benefit was tied to the game’s release period, not a continuing advantage for a 2026 purchase.
Platform and storefront checks come before edition choice
The official buying flow asks you to select a platform and store. That matters because an edition name alone does not prove which hardware, format or entitlement you will receive.
The official PlayStation listing presents Hogwarts Legacy for PS4 and PS5 and shows both Standard and Deluxe editions. If you own a PlayStation console, open the listing for the specific generation you use and verify whether the product grants access to one version or both. Do not infer cross-generation rights from the word “Deluxe.”
For another platform, use that platform’s own store page and inspect the edition description. The captured official pages do not establish a universal list of every platform, regional price or cross-buy policy, so those details must be confirmed locally.

- Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart.
- Make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world.
- Your legacy is what you make of it. Live the Unwritten.
Use this pre-purchase checklist
- Select your hardware platform before searching for the edition.
- Choose the correct country or regional storefront so the currency, taxes and terms match your account.
- Open the full product description, not just the thumbnail or search result.
- Confirm whether the listing is Standard, Deluxe or Digital Deluxe.
- Read the contents list and look for the base game, Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest and, for Deluxe, each Dark Arts item and the Thestral Mount.
- Check whether the product is digital or physical and whether a disc, code or account entitlement is supplied.
- Review the final price and refund terms immediately before checkout.
Digital versus physical: do not assume the bundles match
The official edition names do not establish physical inventory in every market. A retailer may stock only Standard, may use a different bundle name, or may sell a code whose entitlement depends on the platform. Digital Deluxe is especially important because the Dark Arts Garrison Hat is explicitly identified as a Digital Deluxe-exclusive item.
When buying a disc, inspect the packaging and the included-code language. When buying digitally, confirm the account region and platform version. If a listing says only “Deluxe” but does not show the contents, treat that as insufficient information until the seller or platform provides a complete description.
Common format mistakes
- Buying a PS5 product when you own only a PS4, or the reverse.
- Assuming a physical Deluxe box contains the Digital Deluxe-exclusive hat.
- Purchasing a code from a different region and discovering that it cannot be redeemed on your account.
- Comparing a disc price with a digital price without checking whether both include the same extras.
- Relying on a search-result headline that omits the edition name.
What happened to Deluxe early access?
At launch, an official explainer described a 72-hour early-access period for Deluxe buyers. That was a release-window benefit. It should be treated as historical context, not as a current reason to pay more for the edition.
A present-day listing may still mention launch language in an old description, but the only dependable current benefits are the contents shown for your region and platform. If early access is important for a future purchase, look for an explicit date and entitlement in the live store listing rather than assuming the old promotion still applies.

A practical buying process
If you want the core game at the lowest risk
- Open the official store for your platform.
- Select Standard Edition.
- Verify that the listing includes the base game and Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest.
- Check the platform generation, region and digital or physical format.
- Compare the current local price with any legitimate sale before checkout.
If you want the complete Dark Arts bundle
- Open the platform-specific Deluxe listing rather than searching by a generic Harry Potter term.
- Confirm that the contents panel names the Dark Arts Pack, Thestral Mount, Dark Arts Cosmetic Set and Dark Arts Battle Arena.
- For the hat, verify that the product is identified as Digital Deluxe and includes the Dark Arts Garrison Hat.
- Check the final price and platform entitlement.
- Save the receipt or order page so you can verify the included add-ons if they do not appear immediately in-game.
Troubleshooting after purchase
A Deluxe item is missing
First confirm that the transaction was for Deluxe or Digital Deluxe, not Standard. Then check that the purchase account and game account use the same region and platform. Restart the game and allow any add-on download or license refresh to complete. If the store receipt lists the item but the entitlement remains absent, use the platform’s purchase-support process with the order number.
The listing does not show every extra
Do not rely on a shortened retailer title. Compare the full contents panel with the official edition description. If the panel is incomplete, choose a listing that identifies the bundle clearly or contact the seller before paying.
You bought the wrong platform
Stop downloading or redeeming a code until you understand the store’s refund policy. Digital refunds can depend on download or play status, while physical returns depend on the retailer and whether the package was opened. The exact remedy is platform- and region-specific.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOptional companion: the official game guide
The publisher’s catalog lists Hogwarts Legacy: The Official Game Guide (Harry Potter). That establishes that an official guide title exists, but it does not establish current stock, price or an authorized live retail listing. Treat it as an optional book purchase, and check the seller’s edition, publication details and availability before ordering. It is not part of either the Standard or Deluxe game edition.
Final decision framework
Use Standard when your priority is playing Hogwarts Legacy itself. Use Deluxe when at least one of the listed Dark Arts additions—the Thestral Mount, Cosmetic Set, Battle Arena, Dark Arts Pack or Digital Deluxe-exclusive Garrison Hat—is a specific reason you want the upgrade. In every case, choose the platform first, verify the local contents list and compare the live price; the edition label alone cannot answer those storefront questions.
