Sephiroth features in the original Final Fantasy VII, the Final Fantasy VII Remake storyline, Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion and Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. He is explicitly named as a central enemy in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and as the party’s nemesis in the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Revelation, planned for April 8, 2027. The key distinction is what “features” means: some games continue Cloud’s pursuit of him, some revisit earlier parts of the timeline, and Ever Crisis includes a separate young-Sephiroth story thread.

At a glance: the Final Fantasy VII games with Sephiroth

The titles below include the original game and major related entries identified in Square Enix material. They are not all the same kind of experience: the Remake project retells and continues the main story across installments, Crisis Core Reunion is a remaster of a prequel, and Ever Crisis spans multiple chapters and story material.

Game Sephiroth connection Story placement or format Status
Final Fantasy VII (original) Included among the core games featuring Sephiroth. The original game in the Final Fantasy VII line. Released.
Final Fantasy VII Remake / Remake Intergrade Sephiroth-related story material is part of the Remake storyline. The official synopsis describes Cloud’s visions of a bitter enemy long thought dead, but does not name him in that passage. The first standalone Remake project installment, covering events through the party’s escape from Midgar. Intergrade is an expanded edition title, not a separate story installment. Released.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Square Enix explicitly identifies Sephiroth as the fallen hero Cloud and his companions pursue. The next story in the Remake project, following the party’s departure from Midgar. Released.
Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion Sephiroth is explicitly listed among its characters. A remaster of Crisis Core; its story begins seven years before Final Fantasy VII. Released.
Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Includes new story elements around a young Sephiroth. A chapter-structured RPG covering key elements of the Final Fantasy VII timeline as well as new material. Released; announced for mobile, with a Steam announcement also noted by Square Enix.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Sephiroth is identified as the party’s nemesis; story DLCs featuring him are planned. The announced third entry in the Remake project. Planned for April 8, 2027; the date and plans may change.

This is a list of story-related appearances and features, not a claim that Sephiroth is playable in every title. The available official descriptions establish narrative connections, character inclusion or planned story material; they do not establish a playable role across the list.

How Sephiroth fits into the Remake project

The Remake project is a trilogy: Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the announced Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The installments follow a continuing story rather than presenting three names for one game. That matters when searching for “the remake with Sephiroth”: the answer is not just one title, and each installment has a different point in the story.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: the Midgar installment

Square Enix describes Remake as the first standalone game in the project and says it covers events through the party’s escape from Midgar. Its synopsis refers to Cloud being haunted by visions of a bitter enemy long thought dead. Although that synopsis does not name Sephiroth in the passage, the game belongs to the same continuing storyline in which Rebirth explicitly names him as the target of Cloud’s pursuit. The careful description is that Remake contains Sephiroth story material; avoid treating the short synopsis as a scene-by-scene account of his appearances.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the expanded-edition name associated with Remake. It should not be counted as another major Remake project installment when the question is how many parts the story has. If you see Intergrade in a listing, it is still the first installment’s expanded edition, not a fourth chapter in the trilogy.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: the pursuit becomes explicit

Rebirth is the next story after the Midgar events. Square Enix’s description says Cloud and his companions pursue the fallen hero Sephiroth after leaving Midgar. This is the clearest official synopsis-level confirmation in the Remake project that Sephiroth is central to the story’s direction. It also makes Rebirth the simplest choice for someone asking which remake entry directly names him as the enemy being pursued.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation: announced finale, not yet released

Square Enix’s September 3, 2026 announcement identifies Revelation as the third Remake project entry and names Sephiroth as the party’s nemesis. It also says story DLCs featuring him are planned. The announced launch date is April 8, 2027, so as of October 13, 2026, this is a forthcoming game—not an available way to play the story. Because release dates, DLC plans and editions can change, treat those details as announced plans rather than guarantees.

Other Final Fantasy VII games with a different Sephiroth angle

Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion: an earlier point in the timeline

Crisis Core Reunion is a remaster of Crisis Core, and Square Enix places its story seven years before Final Fantasy VII. Its official character listing includes Sephiroth. That makes it a useful choice if you want a story set earlier than the original game rather than the next chapter of Cloud’s Remake-project journey. Its prequel position is established; the available description does not require assuming that it retells the original game or functions as another Remake installment.

The title can be easy to misread because Reunion also appears in the name of the remastered release. It is not a Remake-project sequel: it is the remastered version of the prequel Crisis Core. For a straightforward comparison, think of Rebirth as the continuation of the Remake project and Crisis Core Reunion as a remastered story set years earlier.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis: multiple chapters and a young-Sephiroth thread

Ever Crisis is structured as a chapter-based RPG that covers key elements from the Final Fantasy VII timeline while adding new story material. Square Enix describes part of that new material as being around a young Sephiroth. This is a different kind of feature from the pursuit described in Rebirth: the game offers a distinct earlier-era thread rather than serving as the next numbered installment of the Remake trilogy.

Square Enix’s announcement described Ever Crisis as available on iOS and Android and also issued a Steam announcement. Availability can vary over time, so check the game’s current official listing for the platform and region you intend to use. A past launch announcement is not proof of present service status or current availability in every country.

One historical number associated with the game needs its date attached: Square Enix reported more than 7 million iOS downloads since the September 2023 mobile release in an announcement dated December 8, 2023. That is a cumulative figure reported at that time, not a current download total and not a count of players across all platforms.

Which one should you play for Sephiroth?

Choose based on the kind of story connection you want, not just whether the character’s name appears in a description. The titles differ in chronology, continuity and format.

  • For the original game: choose Final Fantasy VII. It is the original title in the series of stories discussed here.
  • For the first part of the Remake project: choose Final Fantasy VII Remake or its expanded-edition title, Remake Intergrade. This installment reaches the party’s escape from Midgar.
  • For the clearest official description of Cloud pursuing Sephiroth: choose Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Square Enix names Sephiroth directly in its synopsis.
  • For an earlier-era prequel story: choose Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion. It is a remaster set seven years before Final Fantasy VII and explicitly includes Sephiroth among its characters.
  • For chapter-based material that includes a young-Sephiroth story: consider Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. It covers multiple timeline elements and is not a single Remake installment.
  • For the planned third Remake-project entry: Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the announced finale, but it is not scheduled to release until April 8, 2027.

These descriptions support a broad map, not a definitive play order for every Final Fantasy VII work. In particular, they do not establish that every related franchise title contains Sephiroth. Square Enix’s franchise copyright listing also includes games such as Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus and The First Soldier, but a copyright listing alone does not confirm whether or how he appears in each one. They should not be added to this list on that basis alone.

What “features Sephiroth” does—and does not—tell you

Official descriptions use different kinds of evidence. A character listing establishes that a character is included in a game’s cast; a story synopsis may identify the character as a pursuit or nemesis; and an announcement can describe a character-focused story planned for a game that has not launched. Those are meaningful connections, but they do not all answer the same question.

  • Named in a synopsis: the description directly connects Sephiroth to the story, as with Rebirth and the announcement for Revelation.
  • Named in a character list: the game’s official material identifies him as a character, as with Crisis Core Reunion.
  • Story presence inferred from the larger narrative: Remake’s retrieved synopsis describes an unnamed bitter enemy, while the continuing storyline and Rebirth description connect the material to Sephiroth. The synopsis alone does not name him.
  • New material centered on an earlier version: Ever Crisis has a distinct young-Sephiroth story thread, so it should not be treated as interchangeable with the Remake trilogy.
  • Announced future content: Revelation and its planned Sephiroth-focused DLC are upcoming plans as of October 13, 2026, not released content.

With those distinctions, the concise answer is: count the original Final Fantasy VII, the Remake storyline (including Remake Intergrade as an edition rather than a separate installment), Crisis Core Reunion and Ever Crisis; treat Rebirth as the clearest direct Sephiroth pursuit, and Revelation as the announced future finale.
