There is no single best car in Forza Horizon 6. The right choice changes with the event’s surface, class restriction, course shape and the performance you value most. For road races, the 2025 GR GT Prototype and Ferrari FXX-K Evo are strong starting points; dirt favors rally cars such as the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI; cross-country rewards stable, powerful trucks; drifting needs a controllable rear-wheel-drive car; and drag racing comes down to launch, traction and strip length.
The recommendations below reflect PC Gamer’s June 26, 2026 guide, not an official developer ranking or independent testing. Playground Games can change balance, event restrictions and availability, so check the active event rules before spending credits or building a car.

How to choose the best Forza Horizon 6 car for an event
Surface is the first filter. Road and street races reward grip, braking and acceleration on pavement. Dirt events are predominantly off-road and need tires and suspension that can maintain control over loose terrain. Cross-country routes combine rough ground with short tarmac sections, so an all-terrain compromise is often better than a specialist road or rally build. Drift and Drag Meets are judged by different things again: drift cars need predictable breakaway and angle control, while drag cars need launch traction and enough gearing for the length of the strip.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Course shape matters as much as headline performance. A car with the highest top speed may lose time on a tight circuit if it accelerates slowly out of corners. Conversely, a car with an explosive launch may run out of gearing on a long drag strip. Treat the lists as event-by-event shortlists rather than a universal tier list.

Official event and progression rules
Playground Games lists Road, Dirt and Cross Country Races, Time Attack Circuits, Drag Meets, PR Stunts and Bonus Boards as Horizon Festival activities. Street and Touge Races also appear as Discover Japan progression activities. Festival races use specialized car themes and class restrictions during their first completion.
After you complete a specific race once, its Race Customizer unlocks. Later replays can then use any eligible car from your garage, letting you test alternatives without changing the original progression requirement. The game has seven Festival Wristbands; later wristbands open higher car-class restrictions. Complete the event with its required theme and class first, then use the custom replay to experiment.
Best road and street-racing cars
Road and street events split into two broad problems: high-speed circuits where top speed matters, and technical tracks where braking, turn-in and acceleration out of corners decide the result. The June 26, 2026 PC Gamer recommendations cover both extremes.

|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 GR GT Prototype | Planted handling, especially with race tires and a wider track | General road races and medium-speed circuits | Build cost and event-class limits still apply |
| 2018 Ferrari FXX-K Evo | Strong speed, handling and braking without tuning | Fast road circuits | Its power can be difficult on tight tracks |
| 2023 Aston Martin Valkyrie | High top speed and handling after tuning | Longer, faster courses | Acceleration is comparatively slower |
| 2013 McLaren P1 | Useful top speed for road and street events | Circuits with long straights | Less effective on especially twisty tracks |
| 2024 Nissan GT-R NISMO | Quick launch and confidence on bend-heavy courses | Technical street routes | Default top speed is less notable |
| 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS | Nimble platform with slick or semi-slick tires and a wider wheelbase | Tight street circuits | Setup and class restrictions can change its role |
| 1990 Nissan #12 Skyline GT-R (BNR32 Gr.A) JTC | Powerful and grippy | Grip-focused road builds | Limited upgrade room; the guide identifies it as a Car Pass car |
2025 GR GT Prototype: the planted all-round road choice
PC Gamer highlights the GR GT Prototype for its handling and planted feel. Race tires and a wider tire or track setup reinforce that stability, making it a sensible first choice when you want a car that stays composed through a varied road circuit rather than one that only shines on a straight.
2018 Ferrari FXX-K Evo: speed without mandatory tuning
The FXX-K Evo combines speed, handling and braking effectively in the guide’s assessment, even without tuning. Its power can become a liability on tight tracks: if you cannot deploy the throttle cleanly, a less dramatic car with stronger low-speed acceleration may produce faster laps.
2023 Aston Martin Valkyrie and 2013 McLaren P1: prioritize the straights
The Valkyrie offers high top speed and handling after tuning, but the guide describes its acceleration as comparatively slow. The McLaren P1 likewise brings useful top speed for road and street events while losing some appeal on very twisty tracks because of slower acceleration. Choose either when the route gives you enough straight-line time to recover speed.

2024 Nissan GT-R NISMO and 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS: technical-course specialists
The GT-R NISMO is quick off the line and suited to courses with frequent bends, although its default top speed is less impressive. PC Gamer presents the 911 GT3 RS as a nimble street-racing option for tighter tracks, especially with slick or semi-slick tires and a wider wheelbase. These are the cars to consider when corner exits matter more than the final speed on a long straight.
1990 Nissan #12 Skyline GT-R (BNR32 Gr.A) JTC: grip with limited headroom
The Skyline is described as powerful and grippy, but it has limited room for upgrades. The guide also notes that it is a Car Pass car, so availability depends on your edition and entitlements. Do not assume that its purchase or upgrade path will match the other road cars.
Best cars for dirt races
Dirt races are off-road events, and the guide recommends rally or off-road tires for rough terrain. Tires are setup context rather than a guarantee: an event’s class limit, drivetrain and your tuning choices can make a different build more suitable.
| Car | Strength identified by the guide | Practical setup note |
|---|---|---|
| 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI | Inexpensive, broad statistics and upgrade headroom before A class | Use rally or off-road tires and preserve control over loose surfaces |
| 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR | Similar concept to the Impreza, with somewhat higher reported stats | A Welcome Pack version is described as pre-tuned to A rank |
| 2001 Ford #4 Ford Focus RS | Strong speed, acceleration and off-road handling | Useful when the route demands both pace and surface control |
| 2022 Subaru BRZ Forza Edition | Recommended for off-road events | Acquired at the Aftermarket location in Sotoyama Ski Resort, according to the guide |
2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI: the value starting point
The Impreza is the guide’s inexpensive, flexible dirt recommendation. Its broad stats and upgrade headroom before A class make it useful when an event restricts you to a lower class or when you want room to add performance without immediately exceeding the limit.
2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR: similar formula, higher reported stats
The Lancer Evolution VIII MR follows the Impreza’s rally-focused approach and is described as having somewhat higher stats. If you own the Welcome Pack version, PC Gamer says it arrives pre-tuned to A rank; confirm the event’s permitted class before entering.
2001 Ford #4 Ford Focus RS: speed and off-road control
The Focus RS is praised for speed, acceleration and off-road handling. It is a good candidate when a dirt route has fast sections as well as rough corners, provided the resulting build remains inside the event’s class restriction.

2022 Subaru BRZ Forza Edition: an alternative off-road platform
The BRZ Forza Edition is another guide recommendation for off-road events. The cited acquisition point is the Aftermarket location in Sotoyama Ski Resort, so look there if the car is not already in your garage.
Best cross-country cars
Cross-country routes are mostly off-road but can include short tarmac sections. That mixture explains why the guide favors vehicles that remain stable over rough ground while still braking and turning predictably when the surface changes.
| Car | Why it fits cross-country | Suggested priority |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R | Powerful and capable over rough terrain | Improve handling before chasing more top speed |
| 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser | Reliable all-terrain choice | Tune acceleration and braking, especially on bend-heavy routes |
| 2022 Subaru BRZ Forza Edition | Works when routes are predominantly off-road | Useful if you want a lighter alternative to a truck |
2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R
PC Gamer emphasizes the Raptor R’s power but recommends improving handling before adding further top-speed gains. Extra speed is of limited value if the truck cannot stay composed over jumps, ruts and direction changes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2025 Toyota Land Cruiser
The Land Cruiser is presented as a reliable all-terrain pick. Prioritize acceleration and braking when tuning it, particularly for tracks with frequent bends where you must slow down and regain momentum repeatedly.
2022 Subaru BRZ Forza Edition
The BRZ Forza Edition appears on both the dirt and cross-country shortlists because many cross-country routes are predominantly off-road despite brief paved sections. It is worth trying when a truck feels cumbersome on tighter portions of a route.
Best drift cars and Drift Attack choices
Drifting rewards a controllable rear-wheel-drive platform, predictable throttle response and enough steering range to hold an angle. The guide’s three conventional choices are the 2020 Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR Supra, 2002 Nissan Silvia Spec-R and 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF.

|---|---|---|
| 2020 Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR Supra | Described as drift-ready with stock parts | Starting quickly without a specialized build |
| 2002 Nissan Silvia Spec-R | Strong engine and wide drift tires can handle many challenges | Less specialized, more tunable option |
| 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF | Rear-wheel drive and balance make it easy to slide and chain drifts | Learning lines and linking multiple corners |

What changed with Drift Attack
In Playground Games’ September 7, 2026 update, Drift Attack became a permanent feature at Shimanoyama Circuit. You earn points within a lap, and Clipping Zones increase the score for drifts held inside their boundaries. The activity unlocks after you obtain the Yellow Wristband.
Completing Drift Attack in the Collection Journal can earn the 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition. Playground Games also added a stock version to the Autoshow. That makes the Jaguar an official progression-linked drift car, while the Supra, Silvia and MX-5 remain guide-based alternatives for general drift challenges.
Choosing among the drift shortlist
The Formula Drift Supra is the simplest recommendation if you want a car that is already prepared to slide. The Silvia provides a strong-engine alternative when you prefer to tune your own balance with wide drift tires. The MX-5’s rear-wheel drive and balanced behavior make it approachable for linking drifts. For Drift Attack specifically, learn the Clipping Zones and treat score placement as important as merely keeping the car sideways.

Drag Meets are decided by launch, traction, top speed and strip length. A car that leaves the line fastest is not automatically the winner on a long strip, and an explosive build can require more correction if it produces wheelspin.
| Car | Strength identified by the guide | Limitation or use case |
|---|---|---|
| 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 Forza Edition | High reported top speed for longer strips | Launch is not as quick as some alternatives; the guide gives conflicting precise speed figures, so no single mph claim is reliable |
| 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata Forza Edition | Quick, controllable launches | Best when initial acceleration matters more than ultimate finish speed |
| 2020 Wuling Sunshine S Forza Edition | Very powerful build and explosive launch | Described as rare and wheelspin-only, demanding careful traction management |
| 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition | Strong launch | Lower finish speed than some alternatives |
1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 Forza Edition
The guide recommends the AE86 Forza Edition for longer strips where its high reported top speed can matter. Its launch is slower than some rivals. PC Gamer gives two different precise top-speed figures in the same article, so those numbers should not be treated as verified performance; choose it for the long-strip role rather than a specific mph target.

2020 Wuling Sunshine S Forza Edition
The Wuling Sunshine S Forza Edition is described as having a very powerful build and explosive launch, but also as rare and wheelspin-only. That combination can be devastating on a short strip and difficult to control if the tires cannot transfer the power cleanly.
2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition
The GT-R Black Edition is favored for its launch despite lower overall finish speed than some alternatives. Select it when the start and early acceleration decide more of the result than the final stretch.
A practical selection checklist
- Read the event card. Note the required theme, drivetrain or class before selecting a car.
- Match the surface. Use road-focused grip on pavement, rally or off-road tires for dirt, and an all-terrain compromise for mixed cross-country routes.
- Study the course shape. Favor acceleration and braking on tight circuits; favor top speed on routes with long straights.
- Complete the event once under its original rules. Race Customizer becomes available for that event after the first completion.
- Use custom replays to test alternatives. Try different cars and builds without breaking the event’s initial progression requirement.
- Keep the class legal. A high-stat car is useless if its upgrades push it beyond the active restriction.
- Tune the weak point first. Improve handling on a powerful cross-country truck, acceleration and braking on a Land Cruiser, or traction on a drag build before chasing headline numbers.
What “best” means in practice
For a broad road-racing starting point, try the 2025 GR GT Prototype. Pick the FXX-K Evo for fast circuits, the GT-R NISMO or 911 GT3 RS for tighter routes, and the Valkyrie or P1 when straights dominate. For dirt, start with the Impreza WRX STI or Lancer Evolution VIII MR, then consider the Focus RS or BRZ Forza Edition for a different balance. Cross-country favors the Raptor R or Land Cruiser, with the BRZ available when a lighter off-road option suits the route.
