In Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.2, the free five-star choice most players meant was the seven-character login selector. Mobalytics’ January 7, 2025 guide named Bronya as the default pick for most accounts, with Himeko, Clara, Gepard, Bailu, Welt and Yanqing placed according to account needs and specific content. That selector is historical: it ran from Version 2.7 through the end of Version 3.2 and can no longer be claimed.
Two Version 3.2 reward systems, not one
Version 3.2 is often remembered for a single free five-star, but two separate systems were active around that update. Keeping them apart matters, because the characters and currencies differ.

The login selector offered only standard characters. Limited Ruan Mei and Luocha belonged to the exchange shop, not to the login reward, so a reader who remembers those two names is thinking of the store.
The seven selector options, as the guide ranked them
The Mobalytics ranking reflects its own January 2025 framing. It is an editorial view, not a measured tier list, and it does not describe the characters’ current standing.

Bronya: the default for most accounts
The guide places Bronya first for most players. It points to her action advance, buffs, cleanse, flexible team use and Eidolon breakpoints that are worth having. She is a reasonable default if your account benefits from another support or if you would value a duplicate to reach a breakpoint.
Himeko and Clara: situational picks
The guide treats both as options for specific situations, mainly Pure Fiction. Choose either only if that content is part of your routine or if your roster already leans toward the role they fill.
Gepard and Bailu: sustain for early accounts
The guide frames these two as sustain choices for newer accounts that lack a capable solo sustainer. Before picking either, check whether your team actually needs defensive or healing coverage. If you already have a dependable sustainer, they are less likely to be the best use of the reward.
Welt and Yanqing: lower priority in that period
The guide ranks these two below the other selector options, saying newer characters had surpassed them. That is a statement about the guide’s January 2025 comparison. It does not mean either character is weak on every account, and it does not predict how they would perform after later balance changes.

How to choose for your account
The guide’s ranking works best when you compare the options against your own roster, not against a general leaderboard. Check these four points in order:
- Role gap: Identify whether your team lacks support, damage or sustain. A character who fills an empty slot usually matters more than one who duplicates a strong role.
- Target content: If you regularly play Pure Fiction, Himeko or Clara may be relevant. If not, they are less likely to change your results.
- Current ownership and Eidolons: If you already own a character from the list, a duplicate is only worth it if the next Eidolon breakpoint matters to your team. Bronya is the clearest case in the guide.
- Breadth or depth: A new character widens your options. A duplicate deepens one you already use. Decide which goal you care about before choosing.
The guide also says players can wait for their roster to develop before selecting, which is a sensible option when no character clearly fills a gap.
